Tony Martinez said that building the wall is "... going to be time consuming and costly" which is the simple truth. How on earth do you get from that that he thinks his "...ethnic group is above our immigration laws and should be rewarded for breaking them"??????? I mean, I'm assuming english is your native language...

When the owners of a baseball team in Dallas wanted a stadium in Arlington, they gave GWB some ownership. It didn't take long for the ballpark to get land under eminent domain.

How long did it take for Trump and his casino to get that old woman's home for their parking lot?

The Keystone pipeline got ranch land in Liberty county before the pipeline was even approved, with the state's blessing.

It depends on who wants the land and why.

Taking of land in Texas for the wall has no wide appeal. Neither Senator wants a wall. Most landowners do not want a wall.

What comes out of his lips may not necessarily be what's in his head or heart. As I said, seen it far too many times to not be suspicious. WTH does my native language have to do with it?

I say good. These landowners can just deal with the cartels and illegals trespassing all over their properties then. Karma.

Much of the border, especially in Texas, snakes through farms, ranches, orchards, golf courses and other private property dating to centuries-old Spanish land grants. As a signpost to the possible troubles ahead, the government has not finished the process from the last such undertaking a decade ago.

"It's going to be time consuming and costly," said Tony Martinez, an attorney who is mayor of the border town of Brownsville, Texas. "From a political perspective, you have a lot of rich landowners who were his supporters."

Trump, in his recent budget proposal, called for the addition of 20 Justice Department attorneys to "pursue federal efforts to obtain the land and holdings necessary to secure the Southwest border." The Justice Department would not expand upon the details. Of the department's 11,000 attorneys, fewer than 20 work in land acquisition now. Trump's budget would double that.

The last wave of eminent domain cases over properties along the southern border dates to the 2006 Secure Fence Act, which authorized President George W. Bush to erect 700 miles of fencing.

Of the roughly 400 condemnation cases stemming from that era, about 90 remain open a decade later, according to the Justice Department. Nearly all are in the Rio Grande Valley in southwest Texas.

To build the existing pedestrian and vehicle fence, the U.S. government has already spent $78 million to compensate private landowners for 600 tracts of property, according to Customs and Border Protection. The agency estimates that it will spend an additional $21 million in real estate expenses associated with the remaining condemnation cases, not including about $4 million in Justice Department litigation costs.

Researchers and lawyers say eminent domain will continue to be a big issue for Trump, one that could stymie his ambitious plans for an "impenetrable" wall.

"It will be a huge challenge for his administration. It will clog up the courts," said Terence Garrett, a security studies and public affairs professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Brownsville. "It's just an affront to property rights."

Part of making Mexico pay....
The wall gets built on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande. 1/2 mile into Mexico.

Trump is not building the wall. All the speculation is pointless.

All the anti-wall people's speculations are even more pointless.

I'm not anti-wall at all. I would love for Trump to get the wall built, whether it's physical or virtual. I live in SE Texas, and this issue is literally in my backyard. But there is zero proof that he will actually get it done, unless you have something I don't. And no, Trump's lying lips don't count. His word is completely unreliable. He makes Richard Nixon look like the paragon of honesty.

I'm trying to understand exactly how you get from a simple statement of truth about expense, made in english, to a global statement about being better than the law. Wondering how well you understand english is a rational place to start, since that is quite a leap.

Now you seem to be claiming that you're a mind reader. Ooooookaaaaaay.

They have been, for years.

The owners also know the terrain. There are better and cheaper ways to get the job done.
