Illegal surveilance is a must, just ask obama and eric holder who okayed and then falsified a warrant which had to be judge shopped before spying on journalists.
Sorry, but the Patriot Act (which gave the government the right to watch us) was passed long before Obama was In office.

Yes indeed it was.. and back then EVERYBODY was targeted.. But eventually, Intel dialled back American's unless and had constant contact with targeted folk( FISA Court).. would be masked then unmasked.. NOW with Trump's multi Trump associates being constantly caught up in their targeting Foreign operatives..plus catching discussion using American contact in THERIR conversations.. kinda says.. WHOA.. Maybe these masked Americans are PART of it??

Trump is pitiful in recognizing his GAME has been exposed.. and YEP.. willing to bet Paul Manafort will be found culpable unless Session or Trump interferes (AKA-Obstruction of Justice)_.. but Manafort is just tip of Iceberg.. Flynn/Page/Ross/Sessions/ (now Nunes) including Trump have been picked up incidentally originally.. BUT consistence refutes incidental.. So lets see how FBI handle this fiasco!!

"Your privacy ends when you step out of your house". I can honestly say I don't have any major beef with that. CCTV? I'm comforted when I see one. It's what you have to give up on your end of the social contract. if you want total "liberty", Somalia beckons. Just don't forget your sidearm.

I grew up in the 1960's/70's on the outskirts of a small county of 50,000 population; every month the names and behavior of those accused of failure to pay child support were recorded in the newspaper. It's my understanding that this practice is no longer permitted by law.

Responsibility begins at the local level; every community should maintain a ****-list as a matter of public record.

Allow the responsible majority more opportunity to identify, shun, and exclude the irresponsible few.

don't know what you talking about- there is much intel out there that keep many safe-via surveillance - you just can't see it- - just everyday crime- is solved by surveillance-

I am not sure council snooping and placing devices to see whose dog fouls or who illegally feeds pigeons is really in the spirit of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 which was designed as a piece of Anti-Terrorism legislation.

It's also been argued that bulk data storage will overwhelm intelligence analysts, actually rendering them less able to detect recidivists.

There's also been reservations raised in relation to increasing and extensive hacking powers, as well as the issue of privacy.

The 13 Islamic Attacks you mention were largely stopped by the Security Service (MI5) and Police Counter Terrorism Units who use a lot of human intelligence and targeted surveillance in relation to specific targets.

A lot of intelligence is actually gathered from Muslim communities themselves, with MI5 increasingly recruiting officers from many different backgrounds relating to ethnicity, gender, age and skills sets. The authorities also often receive help from communities themselves, indeed in one third of the cases information provided by the pubic was an important factor instopping an attack.

Security services 'prevented 13 UK terror attacks since 2013' - BBC News

The trouble with the Signals Intelligence and mass data coverage is that the terrorist know they are being monitored in relation to communications, so often avoid using such communication, or increasingly launch low tech or lone wolf type attacks. Signals Intelligence is often not very useful in identyfying these type of potential terroriust attacks and nor is mass data collection of peoples personal private data.

Whilst in terms of the mass colection of data it is increasingly worrying particiarly with increasing technology coupled with large databases and general surveillance, and the rights of the individual must not be trodden on by Government in order to create some Orwellian Nanny State where everyones speech is monitored, internet activity monitored and phone calls listened to.

NSA whistleblower William Binney was on Fox last night making Tucker Carlson painfully aware how out of control Big Brother really is.

It's sad that the sockpuppets on the internet devolve every discussion in to partisan politics because this situation transcends allegiances to Party.

You may be right that it transcends allegiances to Party. However, it's allegiances to Party that leads people to engage in this sort of activity.
