it does seem likely that the clock that got Mohamed arrested wasn't made from scratch, but it hardly seems like it should need pointing out that this doesn't matter in the slightest.
he built a clock. If he started with a 1980s clock and dissembled and reassembled. . .that doesn't change much. Dad said he likes "tearing things apart and putting back together".

Then it gets worse. your falling back on the same Racism that Richard Dawkins fell on. Like this kid could of forecasted that assembling a home made clock could of landed him in jail. There is no way anyone could of predicted that

Obviously any kid who would do that should get arrested.
Then why would you use a knapsack as your example? An unaccompanied knapsack would in fact be a legitimate cause for concern. One on a kid's back would not be. When a kid shows you a project it would not normally be a source of concern particularly when he tells you what it is.
The knapsack had to get there carried by someone. If the wearer acts suspicious maybe you don't need to wait until he leaves it unattended.
Imagine, 'what is that conglomeration of wires and circuit boards you are carrying around?" Oh, that? 'that's just a clock'. 'Wow, I've never seen a clock that looked like that'.

Uhhh no. Note that the guy in the video does not turn it on. You can do it that way but it almost never works afterwards. There is a certain finesse in technical things - even taking things apart. What you saw there was the right wing approach...hit with a hammer. Mostly it does not work.
1. Muslim kid is the son of someone involved with an Islamic political agitation group.
2. Said Muslim kid transfers clock parts into a different case, which is no more difficult than it is to transfer a computer into a different case (probably much easier), essentially making something that looks like a bomb.
Notice that a. there is no rational reason to do so and 2. that doing so shows no particular science aptitude.
