Temperature measurements were never questioned until the climate began warming and the evidence became indisputable in the last 20 years, now it's the equipment, the accuracy. Technology has changed over the years and has become more accurate and consistent over time. If you don't like the methods from 1880 then look over the last 30 years and make your argument.

How does it make their case look better?....In most instances old records have been adjusted downwards because of poor locations of temperature stations, which would do just the opposite.
The same thing applies to ocean temperature records.

Don't include temperature records that don't meet todays standards, you just want to rely on records that go back around 50 years and start there, seriously.

Read up on it. Thermometers in the 1800s could be off 4-5 degrees and no one really cared.
