You DO realize don't you that a significant chunk of every dollar the government spends ends up in somebody's paycheck somewhere right?
That money doesn't just "disappear". It goes into people's wages - who then spend that money and boost the economy - just like they do if they get paid by the private sector. Reduced tax revenues as a fallout from the Great Recession have resulted local, state and federal government job loses of about 750,000. That's THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION American who are not spending like the would otherwise - resulting in less money for the businesses of the private sector.
The economy has recovered a great deal since 2008, but it would have recovered even faster - and a great deal more - had we not had to lay off AN ADDITION THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION well-paid Americans.
