The core of truth is what makes negative stereotypes painful.
If we said Jews have no brains or that Blacks are poor athletes or Italian women are notoriously bad cooks or American Indians can hold their liquor we would NOT be offended because we would be laughing too hard.
"Stereotyping" is such a bad word these days. Funny thing is, most stereotypes are based in reality. If they weren't, they wouldn't become popular.
But I'm sure some politically correct people disagree about that. So name me one stereotype that isn't based in reality.
Democrats are weak on national security and Republicans are strong. Totally false. Same with the economy. The reason those two exist isn't because they're based in fact but because Republicans lie about them over and over and over and the media just covers it as if it's true
Well, for one thing stereotyping the majority of the GOP as being racists so that isn't reality.
Blacks are just as racist as Whites, and being Republican has noting to do with being racist. It's the same exact thing with men and women... How many domestic commercials have you watched where men are depicted as idiots or how many smartass sexist comments have you heard women say when it comes to men? Usually men don't take offence and some even repeat the same stereotypical bs. However, if men were to say the exact same thing in reverse, we'd be demonized by other men and women alike as being antiwomen and sexist. How many all women health clubs, special programs, and other benefits like getting into a club for free but men have to pay have men had to deal with? We, because we're thought of as the majority, just look past it, but if the situation were reversed, women would have a fit and most men would side with women... The same exact thing happens with Blacks and Whites when it comes to racism. When Blacks do it, no one cares, notices, thinks of it as being racist, but let a White person do, say, or think about doing something even half as bad, and everyone is marching and looting...
Everybody loves Raymond, King of Queens, Home Improvement, The View, TV commercials, etc... All stereotype men as being primitive immature idiots who aren't as smart as women...
Then what if it were a man doing this to their ex who moved on..
It would be seen as abuse... The commercial would have never made it to television.... My point is that it is almost always an exceptable double standard when it comes to minorities or the poor.
