That is why we have courts. But clearly we need to vet people with control over children better.I think polygrphs are in order since such people are drawn to such positions of trust over children.
Good news! That said, if the genders of this teachers and students were reversed, would the penalty for the teacher have likely been the same?
No because typically people buy the excuse that women had mental issues based on say abuse our rejection if they are a teacher who have relations with a student. Men however, they are monsters no master what. If they had abuse when they were younger, nobody really buys it when it comes to sentencing.
This stuff was always rumored when I was in school in the '80s, and I'm pretty sure some of those rumors were true. I will say that no guy in those days would have felt abused if his 20-something female teacher was having sex with him. I remember in junior high there were two guys that were too old to be in 8th grade (16 and 17), but looked like grown men. They came to a party on the last day of school with two of my very young female teachers, who were probably first or second year, maybe 22 or 23 years old. I thought it was very inappropriate of the teachers, but no one was shocked and many of the guys thought it was cool.
I also used to date men out of high school when I was younger, with the full approval of my mother. I was 18 and my boyfriend was in his early-20s. Attitudes about age differences have really changed since then.

I think the issue is society looks down on it and think an older person is taking advantage of younger people date. I actually disagree with that logic and agree with your mother's. If they pass the parent test with flying color, why does it matter to anyone else?
