Australia and NZ have tough gun laws and have for years. They still have guns turning up on the black market and crimes being commited.
And they have FAR less gun than us.
Gun owners really should be responsible and have Safes that are bolted down and can house all their firearms though. There are too many gun owners that don't secure their firearms.

And why would I want to lock my gun in a safe at home?
If/When a criminal decides that my home looks right for the pickin and I and my family are there .. Should I ask that he (criminal) wait while I get the gun from my safe?
I have a number of law enforcement friends who do keep their personal weapons in safes but their service piece is always close at hand!

Gun accidents are due to negligence by people who lawfully purchased guns.
The only truly effective gun control methods are metal detectors used in airports and courtrooms.
You forgot stolen from the above-highlighted section.

Australia is smaller than Texas. NZ is smaller than...well, a LOT of U.S. states.
You can not compare these countries - apples and oranges. America is a VERY large landmass, and I sure as heck want my 90lb aunt who is 80 to be able to own any of the guns on the market as she pleases living in the middle of nowhere on acres and acres of land. I also want the females in my life who live in the big inner city to be able to defend themselves as well.
Leave my right to defend me alone; as someone else here said, try to take mine and you will also have a very hard time.

(More looney, PC gun talk)
I'm not talking about your SD weapon.
I mean if you have multiple weapons that could get stolen during a break-in.

Um...Australia is bigger than the US! The population may be smaller than Texas.
I'm pro-gun bud. I think you misread my post.
