They weren't a threat to us untill they showed that they have no control over who can get their hands on their chemical weapon. Assad may or may not have known who did the deed but now he should pay some price because his chemical weapons were allowed to be used one way or another. It is no bold statement for Barack Obama to repeat what the world already has agreed to regarding the use of chemical weapons. Apparently he is going out on a limb suggesting that there should be a penalty for its use.

Allowing them to use wmd's without punishment and repercussion will embolden more Islamic terrorist groups and nations to use them. And as we see, the U.N is a joke.

Default diagonal red line drawn across Obama's face...by Obama

All the discussion points to Obama treating Syria as pure politics. Everyone has an interpretation of Obama's intentions that conclude he is more concerned with political advanatge rather than addressing the job at hand. Obama's red line statement was absolutely stunning when he said he disn't set the red line. Right up there with pelosi and 'we have to pass it to find out what is in it". How can their supporters stand by and defend these insane and insulting politicians?

Obama has already diminished the reputation of America to such a point that the claims the US will lose the world's respect if they don't intrude in Syria, cannot further suffer any further damage.

Chiropractors around the world are treating people's necks after they heard Obama claim he didn't set, "the red line". Who in the world would believe anything this man said??

"They fell in line to vote for the second Iraq war because the information given to them--supposedly by the people who should, beyond any doubt, be trusted to tell the truth to Congress and do the right thing for the American people--made up the intelligence to justify going to war. You can't blame anyone, democrat or republican, for a vote that was made based on fabricated information. The Bush administration lied to Congress, and to the American people."

GWB was supported by a larger contingent of nations than obama ever mustered along with Dems including Hillary.

Iraq had used chemical weapons on Iran and its own people. Saddam told the world he had chemical weapons. The world believed him.

GWB did not lie. If he did then you must accord him the most effective and intelligent leader to have the skill to fool your next novelty historic elected president, the world and the Dems.

Obama must be driving all the GWB haters insane if they indeed take umbrage at a president who lies and lies and lies. Obama is like the kid caught stealing cookies and claims he didin't do it, his hand did it. He wasn't eating them, he was just counting them. Someone made him do it.

Of course the same thing about being responsible for multiple US deaths can be said about al Qaeda, who now fights against Assad and his Ba'ath Party.

It would be stupid to take either side in this conflict. We should either stay completely out of this fiasco, or aid both sides (not militarily) in destroying each other.
A correction about Hamas - they are not headquartered in Syria. They left Damascus and Syria in 2012 because of the civil war and moved their headquarters to Qatar. More than that - Hamas has been training the rebels (and probably sending fighters also) who are fighting al-Assad's men. Syria quit giving Hamas funding in probably 2005 when the Bush Administration & the French kicked Syria out of Lebanon. The occupation of Lebanon for 15 years was a Cash Cow for Assad - he has a lot of problems with money now and gets funding from Iran. Iran has cut funding to Hamas over Syria, but Hamas is picking up more funding from the Saudis, Qatar & UAE. Hamas has always received a lot of their funding from the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, but they have run into their own problems in Egypt. I guess everyone knows that Hamas began as a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood and they have close ties.

Hamas is mainly Sunni, they don't mind taking money from the Shiites, but they draw the line at siding with the Shiites against fellow Sunnis. Hamas and Hezbollah have also split over the Syrian Civil War - the UP side on this is that neither Iran or Hezbollah can now direct Hamas to go to war with Israel. They may do it anyway, but not as an Iranian proxy.

They're a threat because defense contractors need a constant supply of orders to keep them in business. An unused weapon is a useless weapon. If all of the defense contractors go out of business then the US will be vulnerable. Also, without constant war the US might actual spend money on meaningful things, which would improve the standard of living of everyone in the country. An educated and functional populace is a dangerous thing to government.

I always wondered why right-wingers go down such a path, except perhaps to dupe weak-minded people into believing such nonsense. It is like left-wingers attacking McConnell's or Boehner's intelligence. Generally, the difference between the sides of the issues is not a matter of differences in level of intelligence, but rather is just a reflection of different values.

There are politicians out there who's general intelligence is assailable, but President Obama is simply not one of them.
He does not understand economics. He is not educated in economics at all. That is why he hires people like Jack Lew.

Obama is all about social issues.
His policy on economics is to throw a pile of money at it and hope it goes away for a while.

I'm all for using war to defend the US.

Syria is another attempt at the Muslim Brotherhood taking over with the help of the U.S. and whomever else chooses to help.

Default Wish somebody could explain exactly how Syria is a threat to our national security

So far, I don't think the President has made a case for why the U.S. should bomb Syria.

What has Assad done to us?
