Doubtless the response will be to shoot the messenger (Coulter) but you can't shoot the historical facts.
Every sergeronatist senator was a Democrat? That's wrong, Senator John Tower of Texas, a Republican, voted against the CRA as did all 10 southern Republicans in the House. That said, the majority were Democrats, but were they liberal. Well not so fast..

Maybe we should examine their ratings from American Conservative Union from 1971(the earliest year they're available)

Ellender 68, Russell Long 78, Robert Byrd 56, Harry Byrd 95, Fullbright 20. The others from that quote weren't available. Other than Fullbright they all had 50+ ratings form the ACU that doesn't scream flaming liberal to me. How about some others? James Eastland and John Stennis both D-Mississippi,both had 94 ratings from the ACU. John Sparkman(D-Alabama) 67, Herman Talmage (D-Georgia) 60.
