Homosexuality in NOT a normal behavior.

You were born that way....blah-blah.

Naw, you just got your wires crossed somewhere.
You could say the exact same thing about left-handed people (who have, in the past, actually been discriminated against as well.)

Do you have the same fearful, ignorant, bigoted feelings towards left-handers?

Just as they do now against gays, the Bible was used to attack abolitionists during the civil war, and to defend slavery as ''normal''.

"slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling" (Ephesians 6:5), "tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect" (Titus 2:9).

I Have The Right To Refuse Service: Restaurant Owner Turns Away Gay Rights Group After He Learned What They Advocate

They Are Abomination Unto The Lord: Baker Who Refused To Make Wedding Cake For Lesbian Couple Faces State Investigation

TX Gov Rick Perry urges Boy Scouts to continue ban on gays

Gay guy comes out to pizza guy

Gay activist admits plans to mass murder workers

Gay West Point Cadet (And If Obama Had A Son, He'd Look Like This) Escorts His Boyfriend To Winter Weekend Formal

One Baby, One Gay Dad, Two Lesbian Moms And You Wonder Why Children Are Screwed Up Today

And those are only from the first page of topics. [The only issues that seem to grab more threads are Obama-hating, gun rights ("you can't regulate me !"), and abortion ("it's murder !")]. After reading a lot of these threads through and through (which I'll not do again anytime soon), I came to the realization that certain parts of the C-D forum have become the domain of the disaffected: those (mostly older) Americans who have become estranged from societal progress, disdainful of differences, alienated from their neighbors, distrustful of evidence not in synch with their beliefs, hostile to people who question the basis of their beliefs, and fearful of the future ... all because ...

they saw their neighbors down the street (2 men) kissing each other in the driveway before going to work, or

they believe their children's third-grade teacher is gay, or

some lesbians want to buy a wedding cake like any other engaged couple, or

the Boy Scouts are considering acknowledging the gay leaders and members already on its rolls, or

a gay West Point cadet takes his date to a formal dance, or

two lesbians have a baby using the sperm of a friend,

and on, and on, and on, and on, and on .......

The rationale of all this homophobia ? Usually religious lunacy, or the "protection" of children, or "people will never accept that !", or "who do they think they are, demanding special rights ?!?", or "they're forcing their 'beliefs' down my throat", or "we've never allowed things like this !", or some combination thereof. The homophobia of the disaffected is loud and unrelenting, despite the facts that:

gay people don't "recruit" children, or molest them any more than "straight" people do

the military hasn't gone to hell in the year since DADT was thrown out the window

straight service members aren't "fragging" gay service members (as "Old Army Soldier" fears)

no one in Massachusetts has wanted to marry three people, or a goat, or any combo thereof, in the almost nine years since the state began to allow gay marriage

thousands of children have been successfully raised by gay couples without "transforming" them into homosexuals (including my own son, now 30 years old and straight and a Yale grad, whom my partner and I adopted when he was 8 years old)

tens of thousands of gay Boy Scouts (myself included) have not tarnished the image of the BSA

I've never gotten a satisfactory answer to the simple question: just what business is it of yours who marries whom ? or who sleeps with whom ? (as long as both are consenting adults). Don't say the bible, because I don't share your beliefs, and it's not the law of this country. Don't say "protection of the children", because the overwhelming view among researchers and professionals who work in the area of child abuse and protection is that homosexuals do not pose any special threat to children. Don't say "special rights" because gay people only want rights that everyone else already has. Don't say "we've never done this" because this isn't the 50s and it's not my fault you're a Stepford wife.

No ... there is no valid answer. It's none of your f****n business. What encourages me: (1) the large number of C-D members who call out the homophobes and expose their flawed arguments and fears, and (2) the inexorable progress of gay rights in this country and other countries. I won't detail that progress, because others have done so on this forum, but thanks mainly to the younger people in this country, the right of gay people to marry who they choose is marching on, and, I predict, will be validated by the Supreme Court. The time will come when it will be legal in every jurisdiction. The train has left the station and will not be turning back.

So to the homophobes among us, I say: you've lost. You can rant about what used to be, or what ills will occur, and how horrible everything will be, but no one believes you, and you're wrong anyway. Be prepared to be unhappy until you accept the inevitable.
Good post!

A comment - right wingers are by their very nature intrusive and authoritarian, and they demand that law enforcement be in everyone else's business but their own, controlling what others do privately with and to their own bodies, the goal being to coerce them to comply with some sort of authoritarian-evangelical ideology that they (right wingers) themselves do not comply with. The lists of right wingers who engage in sexual activities disallowed by law (for example, the solicitation of prostitutes and pedophilia, etc.) are legendary. However, while right wingers engage in these illicit activities, they also engage in a great deal of Bible-banging and proclaiming of "family values" to disguise their true nature. In truth, right wingers lack family values, and are basically amoral.

Are you saying you have first-hand knowledge of this ? Congrats on coming out of the closet.

As for me, I don't have any problems at all being a gay man in Texas. Maybe because when most guys first meet me, they realize I can kick their a*s down the block and back.

I didn't think "kickin" would be the thing you had in mind to do to their "a*s".

Great post OP. I have noticed that the normal C-D homophobes are avoiding this thread. Lets hope they avoid this whole site.

The only thing constant is change. Some will never understand that opposition to change does not alter the fact that change is happening.

Social evolution is a b itch to those unable or unwilling to adapt; left on the wayside, disaffeced by the very theory they claim does not exit.
