I believe passing a constitutional amendment requires the approval of the legislatures of 2/3 of the states. Being that no states with large rural population would support an amendment to repeal the second amendment and ban civilian access to firearms, isn't such a task impossible?
I don't see that happening in the forseeable future. I believe the country is moving in the direction of making a repeal possible, but it won't get there in the near future. Right now the nation still has a vast amount of the population who grew up before public schools became indoctrination camps. As time goes on, this segment of the population will become smaller and smaller. At some point a critical mass will be reached where constitutional freedoms will no longer be a primary concern, and then repealing part or all of the Bill of Rights might become feasible. But probably not in the lifetime of anybody who is currently over 30 or so.

Actually the 50 year trend has been that Americans are in less support of gun control and in even more in favor of the 2nd Amendment. So no, I do not think the country is moving in the direction of a repeal. Want to know the largest group increase in guns? Democrats.
The second amendment isn't going anywhere. Anyone who thinks you can get a constitutional amendment to ban guns, is completely delusional or ignorant, or both.
38 states required for ratifications. I could name 13 states off the top of my head that would never do it. I'm not sure that there would even be 13 states that would do it. Perhaps Illinois, NY, California, and several of the New England states.
I am in the solid blue state of WA and I guarantee we would not do it. Our Dem, Nanny-state Gov Gregoire just last year signed a bill legalizing the use of supressors (aka 'silencers') in WA.
