Effective January 1 we will be no smoking and it isn't just no smoking on the job but no smoking anywhere, anytime.
If you don't like it it's a free country and the employee is free to quit to find employment elsewhere.
It issn't that the company is altruistic, they aren't, but the company pays a substantial portion of health insurance premiums and why should the company, or employees who do pay a portion of the premium, have to pay more because someone smokes?

Smoking is very cool. You haven't lived until you've seen severe COPD, labored breathing, cyanosis and continual sputum (phlegm) being spit up/suctioned from a lifetime smoker. Even cooler to see the severe restlessness of someone with lung cancer who is either breathing with one lung due to removal, or is waiting to die because the surgeon cannot operate due to the malignancy spreading to their lymph nodes.
