Considering that the US is a MASSIVE place, and that 99.99% of the population dying off would be 3,000 people (going off another poster's math), there could be 30 people left in Kansas and they could theoretically go the rest of their lives without ever seeing/knowing the others are there. Figure that somehow most of these survivors are in the big cities with relatively few in the country, and the chances of people in the (former?) US ever restarting society are slim.
You'd have a slightly higher chance of finding people in former population centers than in the country, because 1). Most people these days do not know how to survive off the land, and 2). The people in the country could pass within a few hundred feet (if not closer than that) and not ever know there are other people around, since they'll be cautious of predators, survivors with bad intentions, etc. If there were people with working power and radios I might consider making contact, but chances are I'd just continue living on my own; the only thing that could change that would be if there was a wonderful young woman around my age (18-25 or so) that would have similar personality traits and was compatible with me as a partner.
Otherwise, I'd probably just get another dog or three to keep me company. Just being realistic here. I'd also be as risk-averse as possible, and try to eat as balanced a diet as possible, because if a medical issue arises or if I seriously injure myself, there's nobody to cure me or patch me up. I'm an EMT and there is only so much I could do for myself.
