It would be a start. At least legalize weed. It's silly that we're fighting a war over a plant!

It always funny to me here on POC when someone starts a thread saying that there is "media bias" yet their source is from the media. I saw this story on the news here in Atlanta and the beating took place in Cincinnati, so I don't understand why the OP says that there was no "peep" from "mainstream media."

Also, when I was in high school, about 13 years ago, a young white woman (who I knew by association through high school friends of mine as she was only 20 years old) was killed by a young white male teenager because he "wanted to feel what it felt like to kill someone." She was at work at KFC and he shot her, on camera and killed her. She had a year old baby at the time and it was a horrible thing and shocking to our community.

All people are capable of horrible crimes. Why are you OP, and those who keep asking "what if it were reversed" so focused on race instead of sympathy for the victim(s). I'm sure some white person beat up or killed another white person in Cincinnati on the same day that this man was beat up. I do feel those boys should go to juvy until they are 18 and receive some intense therapy in some sort of boarding school where they can obtain a decent education, but they are 13 and 14 year old children and don't deserve to be tortured.

This reminds of a 14 year old boy here in metro Atlanta who recently put a pipe bomb in a pool house in his subdivision, also reported on the news. (Boy, 14 arrested for homemade pipe bomb) He was a white boy and his neighbor was interviewed by our local media and she said that he was "just a kid" and hopefully he wouldn't do something so wreckless again. Luckily no one was hurt, but they had evidence that his parents knew he was making a bomb so his parents were arrested. I agree with her that he was just a kid and hopefully he will get some sort of intervention and education to know that this sort of thing can destroy lives.

The guy didn't die (although badly injured), and is recovering at his mother's house now... not to mention, the perpetrators were freakin' KIDS! We're talking 13 & 14 year-old boys, in case you didn't read the article. Do you feel all 13/14 year-olds who beat up somebody deserve your harsh sentence of lifelong torture too? Assault doesn't typically carry a life sentence, FYI.

From: Assault Charges
Third Degree Assault First Degree Misdemeanor (M1) Possible 2 Years
Second Degree Assault Fourth Degree Felony (F4) Mandatory 5 Years *Maximum 8 Years
First Degree Assault Third Degree Felony (F3) Mandatory 10 Years **Maximum 16 Years

Gizmo, you will have to excuse me if I disagree with you. At 13 and 14 you should know better. Yes teens do some crazy things! And yes, I had my fair shair of fights at that age. WITH OTHER TEENS! Never did we once as teens ever dream of jumping an older gentleman! I'm not trying to flame, just saying that I think at that point in their lives they should know right from wrong.

Now as for what color they were... black, white, green, red... or from the planet Jupiter, they need to be held accountable for their crimes! Maybe not life, but they need to do A LOT of time!

You don't watch the news to much, do you?????

Good point.

Sometimes people just need a break. Maybe to generate revenue, the centers could have some type of work for the people to do during the day. Maybe like some community service type projects (landscaping, cleaning, etc).

Society wins out.

But hey, if we can think of this stuff on City-Data in our SPARE time, how come the people we're paying can't come up with anything??

It really is. And so true.

So boredom and not race was the motivation? So what was the point of changing the story line .
When chicken breast go on sale in Harlem the store can advertise "White meat on sale in Black Neighborhood"

These are the two competing ideologies this country has to choose from.

Choose widely in November.

It starts at home with THE PARENTS! We can sit here and blame all of the violence on tv or video games, or music, blah blah blah, and sure those things can be influencial to the young mind! However; it is up to the parents to teach these kids how to differentiate as to what is right and wrong. My son is in that phase where he is into playing army, and playing with his toy guns. I did at his age as well. However; I make it VERY clear that it is pretend, and that taking another life is NOT acceptable! Unless of course it is in self defense, and your life is clearly in danger.

Unfortunately these kids chose to act out violently, and target an innocent person. They need to be held accountable and prosecuted!

A lot of the shootings I witnessed went unreported. A lot of times, the cops didn't get there until after everything went down. By that time, the injured would be dragged off so that they don't draw unwanted attention and nobody saw anything.

In Chicago, its as if nobody even knows about the murders. They're mostly isolated to certain neighborhoods and the city is so big that you never even visit those neighborhoods unless you work there or live there. Huge swaths of the city are very tame and since most people aren't affected, they simply don't care.

Because the continued war on drugs is big business! I'm sure that you're aware that our government plays both sides of the coin.
