I've heard the Christian Science monitor is close, but Ive never read it before. Anybody here? I'm sick of reading BS and opinion, I just want the facts ..and then I'll make my own opinions. What is my best bet?

I would say, NO as a response to the question. Anybody capable and even remotely interested in non-biased opinions and analysis should really look at ALL point of views and arrive at own conclusions.

Here's the thing about "unbiased" news. It's bullish. An "unbiased" news source would have to report the "controversy" of the Earth being round vs flat, even if the flat-earthers were a 20-person cult holed up in a Nevada desert.

News sources should be "biased" towards the truth. If they want to report on fringe positions on real issues, it's also their job to convey the fringeness of that position and not treat it like it holds equal weight in credibility or fact.

CNN used to be AWFUL at being "unbiased." They tried to play that "give both sides of the debate" a platform, until they realized how ridiculous their stories were getting. It's one thing when FOX claims climate scientist dispute Global Warming and doesn't say how many there actually are. It's another thing when CNN tries to compare the <1% of skeptics as having equal credibility as the 99% who are saying otherwise.

The Monitor is really good.

What makes you believe that a newspaper has a duty to be unbiased? They never were. If they are reporting on a event, like a city council meeting, or presenting all sides to a story they should be. Many times a reporter will ask the 'other' side for a reply. I never expected tv or anything to be unbiased. It s not the nature of the beast. Like Einstein said, you have to seek out respectable opinions from all sides to get a semi clear picture of what's up. It takes a lot of time to be an informed citizen.

Probably not. However, some publications allow multiple views to be expressed. And some are not subscribed to a single opinion. In contrast, others have an agenda which they push, twisting reality until it matches their preset picture. I like reading the NY Times, though I may be getting tired of their politically correctness and non stop fixation with topics like gay rights and minorities. (Even I accept some of these views, sometimes i feel it's too much).

What you are looking for are papers that keep their editorials separate from the news. The Christian Science Monitor does that, as does the New York Times -- although the Time's editorials are generally liberal biased, they have columnists that are conservatives and keep the news section separate from opinion.

For moderate/right-of-center papers I recommend-

Christian Science Monitor
USA Today
Wall Street Journal
