Whenever a Democrat has been president in my lifetime, somehow it always feels like a distraction or aberration of some kind. That's been the case with Carter, Clinton and Obama. Somehow, those presidencies didn't feel "normal" or "right".
Do you think that when a Republican gets elected, then America will once again return to its core values?
Untill the Republican's move out of their little Pup Tent and moderate some of their far right positions we don't have to worry about the answer to this question.
No republican (or other) POTUS can bring the US back to "normal". Major changes will take place only following major global events: discovery of new energy sources, global wars or natural catastrophes (unfortunately)...basically external forces which will force us to change.
No, this country is so far off the beaten path it's gone...

I'm not competely anti-Obama though. I think he did a fantastic job of killing OBL last year.
There's some truth here.
If there's a Republican in the White House, Democrats in Congress are unlikely to actively try to derail the economy over and over just to score political points. There are certainly party-first Democrats out there, but generally they seem to be less on board with the idea of destroying the country to win a political pi**ing match than the Republicans. Although to the mainstream Republicans' credit, they seem to finally be coming around to the idea that they shouldn't actively destroy the country if they ever want another chance at leading it.
As for personal responsibility, get real. There hasn't been a Republican president in my lifetime who actually believed in personal responsibility. They just want a different set of people (the elderly and the defense industry mostly) sucking at the government teat.

This.
Sadly, yes to the OP's original ?. Since, Democrats are not as nasty and evil.
