Does the fact that this bill was popular with many Americans mean that it hurts Obama that it didn't pass? I think it hurts the republicans and democrats who voted against it more. They voted against a bill that many Americans liked.
When the people like a bill it has to be passed, I see. You are crapping down your leg and just can't see the truth about this.
Absolutely. It's more proof that the republicans do not care in the slightest about job creation, balancing the budget, and most importantly, what the wishes of the american people are. Obama now can use this to lay the hammer down on the GOP all the way through campaign season.
Finally, one of you has come up with the reason this thing was written by Obama and his czars. They knew it couldn't be passed but they knew that they might be able to use it against the GOP and maybe even get enough people like you to make a loud enough noise to get rid of the Congress. He doesn't want them around any more than he wants the Constitution around.
So... you're saying that it was meant to send a message, sort of like the "healthcare repeal" vote in the House?
There's been articles for weeks on this; the Dems aren't even for this and Reid had tabled the bill.
This is just a dog and pony show so Obama can blame the Repubs.
His own side doesn't want to sponsor or push this spending bill.
They don't want to rock the boat for their re-elections next year.
Just look what happened to the House ... turned Repub majority because the people were fed up with spending money we don't have.
When you say "the Dems aren't even for this" do you mean most of them or a few? 96% voting to block a fillibuster seems like a decent amount of support if you ask me. Plus... why would they be scared of the repercussious from voters if, as the poll seems to demonstrate, the basic idea of the bill is well-supported in the public? I know they knew it wouldn't pass in the current form, but aiming for more than what you want is a pretty common tactic for ending up with some or most of what you want.
It's another sop to the unions from a President who doesn't give an (expletive delted) about the 90-plus percent of us who are not union members, and are vehemntly opposed to government sanctioned extortion of our hard earned wages.
