The source has twisted the facts.

Here is the actual source:

Mexican Consulate hosting free labor rights workshops | KPLU News for Seattle and the Northwest

Read for yourself.

The comment about ITIN numbers being issued to illegal immigrants is horsepucky. Evidently someone needs to learn a little bit about civics before posting crap like that. Shame, shame on Rick Oltman.

ITINs are issued to non-US citizens in lieu of SS numbers. That includes non-US citizens who are here legally and also non-US citizens married to US citizens who file with status married filing jointly.

ETA: The intent of the agreement with the US DOL was to protect migrant workers.

And frankly even though I have zero tolerance for illegal immigration, the prectice of some employers to lure them in and then boot them out if they get uppity is something I don't think is right. If you're going to post signs in Mexico telling people that good jobs await them if they can find a way to get here, the least you can do is pay them their damn wages after you've sicced Immigration and Naturalization on them to get rid of them.

Any red-blooded Americans up for those good jobs picking tomatoes or packing meat?

You miss the picture.

Many illegals are doing service as well as corporate jobs.

Why is the labor department vouching for people that should not be here. What happen to the American worker?

What benefit is it to be an American anymore if illegals will have the same rights as Americans?

To create a crisis. Isn't it obvious.

Actually I think you are missing the picture so I'll spell it out.

Let's assume for a moment that illegals are here in the US and are
a) being paid wages that are below the legal limit AND below what any American would accept
and/or
b) working under conditions that are not acceptable in the US.

If you accept the premise that the US Government should NOT step in other than to enforce immigration law, namely toss them out, you have just provided an incentive for US businesses to hire illegals.

If however you get the US DOL behind illegals and convince them that they are entitled to the same working conditions, wages and benefits as the American worker, you are reducing the incentive for businesses to engage in the shady practice of enticing foreign workers to enter the US illegally and work for peanuts under sweatshop conditions. And I think we all know that this goes on yes? I mean it takes two to tango, the worker willing to take third world wages and the American company who is willing to try to get away with it.
