Unless they plan to give me mileage for every dollar I spend with my debit card, I'll drop Wells Fargo if they charge $3/month for my debit card. It's principal rather than the $3 that will irritate me.
Time for a reading comprehension test. It's $3 'per month', not 'per transaction'. The OP might as well have said it was $30 or $300, which would have been just as wrong...
Amazing how long ATM services have been offered to customers and in most cases as long as the cusotmer used their debit or ATM card on the same network there was no charge at all. Over those years banks have made BILLIONS of dollars in profits
This is just another example of price gouging and greed by banks.

And they already do. You think they just let your money sit there? No, they take your money and invest it in order to make more money. Usually on products that give the bank way more interest than they give you. Fractional reserve banking.
Call me a 'cheapskate' if you want but I don't appreciate having a service that I previously did not pay any money for and now have to. Thankfully this is a free country where I can choose to go to another bank or CU that will not charge me for simply glancing at their ATM.

It is why I switched from big banks to Credit Unions and utilize services of a small (relatively "local") bank for most part. And that was years ago.
