After all, they are an integral part of the reason for our economic problems. Why don't they reconvene and start working on solutions to our debt problem? We just suffered an historic downgrading of our credit, the markets are skittish and investors are running scared, and our elected officials think they deserve a vacation? I'm surprised they don't have a negative approval rating at this point.

Well, it's not like they actually care about the average American. As long as they get their salaries, benefits and pensions, why would they put off a vacation just to help us?

Actually, many of the Congressmen aren't on vacation at all. Congress calls recesses in large part because the Congressmen have to attend to matters in their home states, meeting with their constituents, meeting with state leaders, attending town meetings and so on. It is also important to note that since Congressmen only have two-year terms, they also have to attend to campaign matters.

Exactly!

I think we'd be a lot better off as a nation if congress took more vacations.

Actually it might more sense to let them stay on an extended vacation, and in their abscence send somebody from their district who is responible and flexible----somebody who is not wedded to slogans, doctrines, and dogma.

If that occurs perhaps our worst possible fears can be realized-----responsible people will attack problems in a responsible manner and avoid flame throwing and tossing bombs at each other. Wow---doesnt this sound awful-----Washington without pretension, self serving narcissists, and relics who bow to doctrine----sounds awful ---something may get done.
