Really.

Congress does an awful job of running things. They continually vote themselves raises. They caused the housing bubble and collapse.

They rushed through a stimulus package that was so urgent ... that no one even knew what was in it. Not even the President. And he signed it.

Congress should be forced to pay back 90% of their salaries for very bad performance. Or be fired.

When will Americans finally realize that half of the boobs on Capitol Hill have to go?

Congress' salaries should be currently taxed at 100%, until they get their heads screwed on straight.

Until and unless a majority of Americans wake up and get their heads out of the sand, expect this crap to continue. We are a country where most people have no idea about the substance of issues or they accept as fact the spin and drive by sound bytes thrown at them on TV or the Internet.

The only way to get this thing fixed is to vote out the current Congress and to vote in a new Congress. We need a balanced budget amendment more at this point in our country than at any other time. Something MUST be done about this runaway spending...massive cuts are necessary and change of culture in DC has to be brought about before it's too late. I don't care what party gets us back on track, but someone has to do it now.

Haven't you heard? Congress lives by a different set of rules than everyone else.

Concerning AIG

Shame on Americans for letting Congress off the hook.

As long as there's a hanging -- folks will feel better.

This whole thing is on Congress' head ... ha, nobody cares.

It is very disturbing that Americans don't hold their elected leader's feet to the fire.

Everyone - right AND left - keeps talking about getting with a program, holding the elected leaders' feets to the fire, looking for a revolution, saying this, that, and anything else, getting Americans' heads out of the sand, standing up, sitting down, yet no one - right NOR left - has clearly indicated what to do, what to organize, HOW to do whatever it may take to regain the authority the population supposedly has of their elected leaders/officials. Is there some organization out there in the hinterland, some organization other than a political process or political party that can get a handle on the goings-on in DC? To iterate time and again for pitchforks and other ancient implements to counter, to protest is all well and good, but when/where/how to organize. I think there are a lot more people who care, but without an effectual agenda to follow, how can they act?

Just some passing thoughts...

People routinely say: When are we going to wake up and take back America?

And what in the hell are we peon peasants going to do about it? If you say vote them out then click on the next post because what I have to say is not for you. Also what I want to say is impossible under the current USA Government regime and will also get me canned from this forum. They have their feet on our necks and we can't get up.

In the old days if we did not like what the Govt did we marched, ranted and carried signs saying horray for our side. The Govt was affraid of we the peons. Today we are affraid of the Govt and that is dispicable.

We are so busy working 2 jobs just to make ends meet we have no time to march, demonstrate or take up arms and start a revolution. Besides, if we the peons did try to organize the donut munching connoisseur pigs who's belly looks like a damn donut will just arrest us for unlawful assembly or whatever other law they can dream up or make up.

Give up my friends and fellow Americans. America no longer belongs to we the peons. It belongs to your (not mine) Govt.

You have to wonder at the statements that Dodd made inferring that he was forced to add the provision regarding bonuses to TARP by the treasury department. How does the treasury have the power to force a member of congress to do anything?

Taxing, or even voting them out of office isn't anywhere near sufficient punishment. It wouldn't send a strong enough message - put them in jail where they belong. These TARP bailouts make Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme look relatively minor.

But, what can we expect when more people vote for American Idol than for President of the United States - and have more knowledge of the contestants than the candidates? Until we stop looking at elections as personality contests we'll continue to have the same lack of substance in our government officials.

We absolutely must hold our representatives to a higher standard. Unfortunately, that also means that the electorate must hold itself to a higher standard. Stop voting for someone just because he can play an instrument, dance up a storm or give a nice speech.

If we don't act now to hold them responsible for their actions we'll soon find that our rights to do so will have been taken away. This administration and congress is, and should be, extremely frightening to all freedom loving people. As I see it, there is far too little knowledge and even less respect for the Constitution.

Didn't AIG give more money to the Dodd and Obama campaigns than to any other? Why aren't we insisting that this be investigated? The president and members of congress should be held to the highest standards in the land. Instead, they're getting passes to continue to be on their merry way to inflict even more damage to the economy.

Serious campaign finance reform is more necessary now than ever. When it takes hundreds of millions of dollars to run a successful campaign something is seriously wrong. It takes away the ability to run from some very qualified candidates.

Taxing particular individuals is just another taxpayer infringement. Is it just? Perhaps. But what it they, by popular demand, begin taxing oil execs at 90%? What about smart investors who purchased gold and oil investments when everyone said it was a stupid idea? How about a cheap populist stunt to get Congress to shoot a laser beam at these evil capitalists?
