Nor do I like the "holier-than-thou" attitude liberals have toward people who are opposed to abortion, gay marriage, a belief in creationism......heckfire, even a belief in God, period. Countless liberals here on CD call a belief in God a "delusion", a "fairy tale" etc..
And for the record, I don't like the attitude many Christians take in these debates either.
I don't care much for the "fairy tale" reference to God myself, but to each their own. You can't force beliefs on people, because as you can see all it causes is more bitterness and animosity. On the same token, you have to go into things with an open mind, especially with religion, because it's so distorted, and interpreted in many different ways, so I can understand some of the frustration and the negative feelings. I look at it this way... I know what I believe, and in the end we're all gonna find out anyway.
While that's true, another problem is that Philly won't see any new jobs anytime soon anyway.
That may be so and that's certainly a problem for any community. However, there are millions of unemployed right now that aren't doing what these kids are doing and wouldn't think of it. There is something that separates the unemployed that resort to flash mobs from the unemployed that don't resort to flashmobs.

and the NAACP needs to figure out a solution to jobs before they speak IMO. all of these organizations and ppl need to focus on jobs and wages. PERIOD.
Those organizations can't create jobs nor do those organization have any power to persuade job creators to create jobs.
Every race or group of people have done something violent
there is not such thing as one race we may have a different colors but we are all human beings and human beings are not perfect the problem is that the lack of social enforcement in the black community esepcially the parents to control these kids. Most of these kids come from impovershied neighbhorhoods but it does not justify being violent.
Another problem is that African Americans make up 12-15% of the population in American and unforunately the subculture and thugs make the general population beleive that every black kid is like that which is far from the truth.
A Town Hall On Teen Mobs
The community and parents come together to come up with ideas to combat teen flash mobs in Philly.
The twin boys in that video have it right and their mother is making sure they stay out of trouble, being involved in church. That is one solution.
I have thought about this. I read a book written by Cornell West called Race Matters and according to him, there is a nihilism among some young African-American men. The flash mob attacks, as barbaric as they are, prove that. The twin boys in that video care alot and so does their mother. There are people who do care. The problem is that the persons who committed those attacks DON'T care about anyone but themselves.
Someone mentioned this in a blog. It mentioned Japan after the earthquake. The person mentioned there was no looting or violence. The reason given was "Japanese are not Blacks". And then I thought about. It has to do with CULTURE. Japan has a group culture. What you do will affect everyone and therefore you must be polite and considerate. You can't bring shame to your family. Among some African-Americans, and in the USA as a whole, it is closer to "every man for himself" and an individualistic way of thinking. It's a matter people looking out for themselves. There is no fear of shame.
Since the NAACP has sided with NYC schoolteachers at the expense of the students in challenging Bloomberg's attempt to close 20+ pathetic schools, it's obvious that the NAACP no longer represents the African-Americans that it claims to represent.

The way I see it, so many people are out for themselves. It is no wonder that there are so many issues plaguing many African-Americans. It is an attitude of "I look out for me and forget everyone else".
I was talking to another man some time ago. Himself and me were talking about some of the issues in the African-American community. With the Dr. King holiday coming up, it is definitely something I've had to think about. We talked about the leadership issues. We both agreed that there are people waiting on the next Dr. King to come along. I think that is the biggest problem. We have to be that leader. We can't wait on a leader. We have to BE that leader. One problem I noticed is that some of our so-called leaders would never die for their cause like Dr. King did. He was willing to die, and he did die for his cause. Many of the leaders who would die for their cause of improving the lives of African-Americans are dead, and the leaders that are around aren't as likely to die for their cause.
