By the time the bomb was dropped, Hiroshima had a large number of military personnel and bases located within the city limits. Another consideration is that unlike America today (we are being invaded? Really? Oh well, Jersey Shore is on!), a large percentage of the Japanese population in 1945 would have fought against American soldiers if we would have invaded their homeland instead of dropping the bombs.

How many Chinese died when Japan air dropped biological warfare agents onto villages and then sent in their doctors to see how well it worked? How many Asian and pacific islander women were forced into sex slavery to serve the Japanese troops? How many American and allied troops were horribly tortured, executed by beheadings simply because they were too weak to continue, or were put to work as forced slave labor for Japanese companies? How many American and allied sailors were executed as they floated in the water after their ship was sunk? Some of those sailors were pulled from the water but not as a rescue. They were used to give the Japanese sailors practice in chopping off heads. And how many were killed when Japan launched a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor while Japanese diplomats were in Washington DC negotiating a treaty with the US?

Default The Japanese were butchers before and during our war with them

Are you people serious?

Do some reading before writing this nonsense.

The atrocities commited by the Japanese were far worse than what we did to end those atrocities.

How about what they did to all the countries they invaded in Asia?...How about doing some research on that?

Look what they did to our soldiers that they took as prisoners. Maybe you people are too young to have known any people that were prisoners of the Japanese during the war. Ask you parents if they knew any...Every person that I met that was a prisoner was tortured and/or mutilated.

Remember, they fought on the side of the Nazis...They were pure evil.

They were also working on their own weapons of mass destruction...Read some history...Do you think they would have hesitated for a moment?

Not only did America commit countless war crimes against the Japans. Our buddy Britain was off committing war crimes against Germany in its "total war" effort. Where it is believed more than 600,000 civilians were killed in indiscriminate bombings.

Of course, these weren't the first time Americans committed war crimes in the name of defending "American exceptionalism". /laugh

I guess to some here, America will always be the evil empire while all others are just victims of our oppression,...regardless of actual history. Guess their brain washing is fully complete. NEA and university education succeeded in indoctrinating another "useful idiot".

Wow! You're actually comparing acts of DEFENSE against Nazi Germany? Really? You really want to go there?

They should have pulled out their laser guided bombs to counteract the newly made and unguided ballistic missiles.

Bombing from the air back then isn't like it is today. Pilots and flight crews were given a photograph of the city withthe target circled. The bombardier would look through a view finder to spot the target. When he judged they were over the target, the bombs were dropped. If one happened to hit the target, it was a successful bombing run. I remember a story of one particular friendly Nazi SS officer. He would take a prisoner to the top of the stairs, shoot him in the back of the head and see if he fell all the way back down the stairs. They said he got very good at that. Then there's the Nazi death doctor. Twins were brought to him for medical experiements. He'd do horrible things to one twin, then kill both twins and open them up to compare the damage tithe formerly healthy twin.

Default Does this get any whackier?

Let me get this straight...You feel sorry for the Germans that (of course) did not have a clue about the concentration camps...They thought the trainloads of people were going on holiday.

Who got the clothing, the jewlery, artwork and all the other property that was seized from millions of people that died in those camps?

Who condsidered themselves the "super race" of the world?...Who celebrated the invasion of all the countries on the (European) continent...And who was benefitting from the slave labor, the properties and goods seized from those countries?

Oh!..and they claimed they didn't have a clue of what was going on...I guess none of them knew even 1 Nazi soldier?...Though they stood on the streets and cheered them.

This thread is a joke, right?...I really hope that people in this country are not that out of touch with reality.

Regardless of the lie, the bomb was the lesser of 2 evils unfortunately.

The Japanese would fight to the death unless some catastrophic event occurred. The alternative was to invade the island and according to estimates over a million US casualties would have occurred.

Like I said, unfortunate, but better than the other alternative
