Anyway, props to Rand Paul (and the rest of the Pauls ) for sticking for the taxpayers' money and speaking their (and many others') mind, although I doubt they'll make a dent in the DC's bog on this issue

Let's see if you just cut this military program, we could save billions a year alone on this one. Ground all those jets--stop causing weather related disasters everywhere. It would be a good start. It would also save billions in the medical end since the sickness this is causing would come to a halt!!

Wow, something from this man I actually support!

I am all for keeping America strong and #1 in the world militarily, but the amount spent while our borders remain porous and our infrastructure at home crumbles is inexcusable.

Well now there at least TWO sane people in Washington, Ron and Rand. Now there's a ticket I could support!

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen.-elect Rand Paul says GOP lawmakers must be open to cutting military spending as Congress tries to reduce government spending.
The tea party favorite from Kentucky says compromise with Democrats over where to cut spending must include the military as well as social programs. Paul says all government spending must be "on the table."
Paul tells ABC's "This Week" that he supports a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget.

I'm a military brat and hated having to choose between him and another douche in Kentucky and I agree with Rand on this.

Our military needs to go back to being a national defense and not a nation-building force. Living in the Washington metro area and dealing with defense civilian employees the govt can tighten up and cut some civilian staff to save some $$$$.

I think those that actually speak out about it like kucinich support stuff like this. I remember Kucinich and Ron Paul agreeing on items like this in the 2008 election and if Rand Paul puts this on the table he will have some liberal support (ex. bernie sanders). That said, unfortunately it won't be enough. Even among democrats, cutting military spending is really all talk.

Which we should be able to get for about 200B.

The amount we spend now is inexcusable.

I'm a Republican and a Vet by the way.
I assert that most people cannot distinguish national defense and defense of the nation with defense of the empire, as they are two completely different animals.

When your interests are that which encompass all that one can lay their eyes upon, then any conflict with a part of our interest is conceived as a threat to the nation and this is just bogus. Its like spreading out trillions of marbles around the globe and each time someone steps on one, we claim were under attack. (our marbles being ships, planes, vehicles, bases, people)

Rand Paul is right and now it is time to watch the battle within the Republican Party over which side wins, the Neoconservative and Trotskyist or the Paleoconservatives.

The Republicans in DC are going to tell him to shut up and color.

The GOPers are already talking about starting a war with Iran while implementing tax cuts.

Read the GOP's "Pledge to America".

Great point. We need STRONG NATIONAL DEFENSE, not nation or regime building.
