It looks like finally the government is doing what it should do and protecting the American public against the FAILURE of the PRIVATE sector! This is exactly the proper role of government- to regulate the private sector to protect the public from excessive profiteering.

There is nothing wrong with "excessive profiteering". If profits are made legally by a company not subsidized by government, we should applaud their success.
And people wonder why Obama gets called fascists.. Now government is demanding two private enterprises to take action.
Tell me KevK.. where is it written that the proper role of government is to insure people have tv channels?
We are a country of rule by Constitutional LAWS, not by men. From the OP's article:
'...William Lake, chief of the FCC's media bureau, sent a letter Friday to Cablevision prexy and CEO James Dolan and News Corp. chief operating officer Chase Carey asking them to justify by Monday the moves that each side has made in the long-running retrans wrangle. Lake's letter asks the toppers to explain how the sides have been negotiating in "good faith," as called for in the law governing retransmission consent deals between subscription TV providers and broadcasters. Lake's letter follows a statement from FCC Julius Genachowski earlier this week that criticized both companies for "spending more time attacking each other through ads and lobbyists" than negotiating. Cablevision and Fox execs have not held face-to-face negotiations since Monday, though the sides have had brief telephone conversations...'

Yes we are a rule of law so why dont you respond to my question.. The job of the FCC is to make sure people dont infringe upon rights purchased and to make sure tv channels dont break the laws..
Now tell me where its written that the FCC or government has the authority to demand two people settle a private business dispute and to guarantee people have TV? Dont avoid the question.. The law says they must negotiate in good faith, thats the law for EVERYONE... It does not require government to step in, its up to the opposing party to file a complaint FIRST that the opposing party isnt negotiating in good faith.. Its not the job of the government to assume guilt without any complaint.. Has a complaint been filed by either party?
In addition the OP is just being ridiculous. Neither party is making ANY "profit" in this situation. The shows arent being broadcasted..

If you are not satisfied that the law is being followed by the FCC, then it is incumbent upon you to produce that part of the law not being followed. State and prove your own case against the FCC, don't ask other CD members to do all that legwork for you.

Where in G_d's name in the constitution do you see where the federal government has any right or responsibility to regulate the private sector?
Excessive profiteering?? Where do you think this money goes to? Taxes, health insurance, research and development, expansion, upgrades, pay raises, etc etc.
If a private sector corp fails, let it!
