I'm surprised to learn that the percentage of renters is so high! Unless that is inflated due to apartment buildings? It seems unusual, though I have no clue if it actually is, for a nice area to be mostly renters.

Which bit is Squirrel Hill South in fact? Also, I wonder how much this will turn out to have changed (as these are 2000 figures)?

Just a technical point, but that is just data for Squirrel Hill South, which is the part of Squirrel Hill south of Forbes. Squirrel Hill North statistics are available here:

By the way, in Squirrel Hill North the owner/renter ratio is pretty much exactly reversed. I assume that difference is partially explained by all the big apartment complexes down near Murray in Squirrel Hill South.

Lots of students live in Squirrel Hill, particularly along the Murray Avenue corridor. Along that corridor, a lot of what looks like houses are actually subdivided into two or three units to accommodate demand for student housing.

The unemployed as usually defined (people in the civilian labor force but not employed) were only 2% of the 16+ population (250 out of 12436 to be exact). There were about 5000 people 16+ not in the civilian labor force, and this would include a lot of students, retirees, stay-at-home parents ,and so on.
