Study abroad programs are suspending because they fear their students will be trapped in these countries as more and more travel restrictions are implimented. There is a lot of pressure from parents, particularly of undergrads, to get their kids back in country, here and elsewhere. Thanks for the helpful event-to-date overview Eschaton. Your wise councel is always appreciated.

Agreed. Ever since BrianTH left I feel like Eschaton is the best contributor to this sub-forum.

I'm perfectly willing to order some takeout from Amazing Wok to support a local business and show my solidarity.

This is actually a great idea! Thanks for suggesting it. I'm going to ask my fiance if we can go eat at the Asian buffet along 51 on Monday as a treat after we close on the house.

Moderator, please close this discussion. Evidently people who don't take vaccines will be unjustly discriminated against. Thank you.

I doubt there will be people changing eating habits at this time. I mean, come on.

Now if we start seeing cases in Pittsburgh, people are no doubt going to not eat out as much and people will change their lives accordingly. I think a lot of restaurants will suffer for a while and a lot of other industries. Imagine the cruise industry right now. They probably can't give away a cruise.

There is no proof anyone is not going to a restaurant of any type in our region. In a few weeks or a month from now, that may prove to be different. I am not buying into anyone not eating at an Asian restaurant. Just more Internet silliness.

CMU just amended their business travel restrictions to include travel to South Korea as well as China and asks people who have traveled to those countries within the last two weeks to self-isolate: https://www.cmu.edu/alert/coronavirus/index.html

I'd guess that other universities and large corporations in the area have similar restrictions.

I am thinking this is the tip of the iceberg. The stock market is going nuts as expected. It hates unknowns and we are in a very unknown state.

Probably there is going to be less travel overall. I wouldn't want to travel if I didn't have to.
