Understood. I was just trying to help him reduce his bills.

Most people leave money on the table since they don't have the time or desire to switch cable companies, for example.

Doesn't leave a lot of time to watch huge amounts of cable TV either .... or chill out on long landline phonecalls. I didn't realize anyone under 40 had a landline

So this is a thing? Most people no longer perceive a long phone call as a way to "chill out"?

I have a landline, probably because I got the best deal on internet with it. But I no longer like talking for a long time with friends who talk on cellphones. It's a technological issue for me. I hate the dropouts and the screeching and the electronic **** in the ear. The two biggest offenders, however, are 56 and 67 years old.

I only use my landline to call my cellphone when I can't find it.

I only have a landline because the cable/internet bundle was cheaper with the phone, too.

I didn't even mean time to budget, but that's a good point too!

I meant more along the lines of having limited free time to sit around waiting for the FiOS technician to show up, or trying to catch companies during business hours to dispute a bill or change plans. Or to spend time perusing insurance website for quotes or navigating through the dozens of possible cell phone carriers and plans.

I no longer have a landline, but I do prefer to use them. My problem with long cell phone calls isn't so much the quality, but that my cell phone gets really warm and is harder to hold than a regular phone.

What is unfortunate, yet also common for America is that he pays a lot more for his auto (car payment and insurance) than for his housing.

I'm actually shocked that he does have cable TV since he's trying to save for a house, even saving just $50 a month adds up in the long run. If you do watch a lot of TV I guess it can be cheaper than alternative forms of entertainment, though. It's also a form of entertainment that easily adapts to odd schedules.

So does Hulu. More so, really.

You don't know many families with children then. They need landlines so their children can call 911.

That's the only time I used mine. We have a landline with the bundle, but there's no phone hooked up to it. For years, I had one with the ringer turned off. When it died, the new one didn't have a way to turn the ringer off so I threw it away. We've had a landline without a phone for a few years.
