Small scale, but still good news. It could lead to future expansions. And what's wrong with them targeting CMU students? Better to have them and their dollars stay in Pittsburgh than go off wherever else.

no nothing.. just as a pitt student it be nice if more folks aimed this way

ill probably most likely leave once im done. I don't see a potential job here in my niche of IT. given that IT is still small and growing and to complicate things...most places are hiring the programming/database side of things. OR business Analyst types.

ah well, Im preparing for the worst ( get a TS, get bunch of certs) just so I can get a shot in maybe philly if nothing pops up in PGH

The Google office started off with less than 20 employees.

I was about to say Google started out with the same small set of employees. I think Disney is right now @ that same starting point of <20 people.

I would love to see EL become that hub for Branches of the Tech Boheimeths..... Google, then Disney, then Yahoo following suite. EL really is the best location outside of Oakland itself for these companies to locate.

well im skeptical of yahoo. compared to google, they aren't doing all the best. sure with the new CEO has turned the company around from complete failure im surprised they aim at expansion really.

well to whom ever left me a rep with a comment "if you cant get into college, go to pitt":

actually for IT Pitt is good. Granted its not CMU,MIT or such levels but it has a good IT program. That's the reason I chose pitt vs GMU or even VA tech. I also liked the idea of a capstone being an internship vs just doing research and never gaining experience. What I did not know however, is how little focus network security is emphasized compared to programming and database.

besides even if I could get into/want to attend cmu, I wouldn't want to gain that debt and id surely would stand out from those students doing IT more so than at pitt.

What a weird thing to say. Pitt has quite solid academics and pretty consistently shows up in the top fifty in school rankings and is top ten in certain fields. Its CS department doesn't rank #1 like CMU's does obviously and I had a few quibbles with it when I was there but they do very good work there.

For what it's worth, my BS from Pitt got me into a master's program in CMU's School of Computer Science with no problems, so obviously they would never say such a thing about their Oakland neighbors.
