Recently, Google Maps has been having 'birds eye' views added to major cities and Pittsburgh was just updated. Try to zoom in on an area in the city and the view will change to an ISO view so you can see the sides of buildings instead of a straight-down view.

I was able to check a few current and former construction sites out, mainly in Oakland (new Pitt dorms), Children's hospital demolition (complete), and Gates Hillman complex (complete). They also captured commencement at CMU!

Consol Energy Center is completed and the Civic Arena was just beginning deconstruction of the roof tiles.

The T northshore construction looks complete.

There are many other neat things to look at in this update and hopefully others can point these unique views out

You can click in and out of Bird's Eye versus straight overhead (using 45-deg in a pulldown).

I've found the Bird's Eye to be buggy at times (with buildings at wrong angles and such), but it definitely is a neat feature overall.

It's simply switching to the "old fashioned" street view via a new way.

The street view feature is still a more accurate way to see a specific address.

Awe. Our old dog is still standing in our front yard. I miss him.

It doesn't look like the web version of Google Maps has this yet but on my android phone the map of the East Liberty Home Depot has labels for all of the departments within the store. Pretty crazy level of detail!

You can get Bird's Eye view with Bing maps. I was able to see a Bird's Eye view of my old elementary school before it was torn down. I could even see it at all four 90 degree rotations. And that Bird's Eye view works way outside the city too.

My point was that google maps came out with similar technology and you can see some of the most recent work. I knew about bing maps but wanted to let people know about google's new work.

I saw a google map car driving around the other day, and saw the new iOS view when I went look for directions the other day.
