It's been a while since I bought a PG, but I did today and I'm stunned at how bad things have gotten over there. Virtually zero coverage from anything going on in the suburbs. The newspaper's political views have gone from left to something weird and crazy that doesn't even register on the political scale anymore. The front page has a whiny story about how the massive loses of Democrats means the state will lose clout (earmarks) in DC. Another front page story is about how Marcellus Shale companies "may" use emiment domain to start forcing people to accept drilling on their land. I've lost count of all the times I saw the words may, might, could, and possibly in one article. Another story about "spreading the wealth" that i didn't even bother to read, and of course, what would be a sunday pg without a random article bashing Sarah Palin...you know, just for the hell of it.

It's not wonder this garbage paper is nearly gone out of business. I'm sick of them calling me and asking me to sign up for a year's subscription for $8 or something pathetic. If they printed their "news" on two-ply paper at least it would serve a use. I feel sorry for Pittsburghers that have to read such one-sided, unacademic drivel. And we wonder why we have a complete fool for mayor? The city simply isn't educated, and the media clearly is not doing their job.

That's why I read the Tribune-Review, they may lean towards the right but at least they have better news articles.

I feel no particular loyalty to the PG--I don't subscribe, I don't pay for it, I just look at it online sometimes.

But those are some strange choices to try to make the asserted claim. The article about losing clout explains how losses by both senior Republicans and senior Democrats in the last few elections has left Pennsylvania's congressional delegation without a lot of seniority or key committee chairmanships. The article about the Marcellus pipeline companies is about the fact that some pipeline companies have actually applied for public utility status.

I honestly don't see much in the way of political bias in those articles. I certainly don't think they are crazy.

Lean towards the right is an understatement.

To say the PG is one-sided is a normal observation for someone who leans politically to the right , as same can be said about the Trib from a left leaning reader's perspective.

I think you've gone too far by stating the whole city is uneducated by reading the PG. I know I'm going back quite a few years but has the Trib done a good "media job" in the past when Trib owner Scaife was quoted saying some deaths of Clinton associates were done under Clinton's direction to have them "done away with" ? Because that was a good 15 years ago, I don't let that dissuade me from buying or reading the Trib now but please,as far as propaganda goes both papers have their fair share of it!

I read both papers on a regular basis. I expect to see political bias from each, but have to say both papers manage to have their share of articles that are centered. The Trib's local pages are more focused on the Greensburg area, but that's to be expected as it's the Trib's publishing location.

I do check PG's website which is far superior to the Trib's which is a jumbled mess.

And as far as the Sarah Palin bashing, that is something that is certainly not indigenous to the PG!

The gap between rich and poor in America is bigger than people think

Agreed. I don't get a physical paper, but I read the P-G online. The Trib's site is absolutely terrible.

That's an opinion piece, originally written by a couple professors for the LA Times. It is actually about the results of a survey they conducted, which are quite interesting.
