I wrote a previous post about my sons' birthday gifts and how excited they were to get their own digital cameras. As it turned out, buying a GE digital camera was a huge waste of time & money. After realizing how much the cameras drain batteries, we were able to return those for different cams of better quality. A Samsung & a Polaroid, with plenty of battery-life to spare.

It may be a tad late for presents but dpreview.com has a basic evaluation of various P&Shoots. I like Consumer reports too but their electronics-related reviews tend to be dated.

Amazon.com has great reviews and lots of them. I use that site for just about every electronic product I buy.

I should have known not to shop for a camera without checking up on it first. It was the twins' birthday though, and I didn't want to pay too much (everything is "x2") for a camera that would just be a starter. We had to pay a little more for the samsung & polaroid cams, but spent more in batteries for the GE's. Live & learn, I guess.

Yes we do. As a plus, both the samsung & the polaroid both have menu settings to switch when using rechargables. The GE's didn't have that.

We, don't have twins but we do have three young daughters that might as well be triplets. Anyways for a Santa gift for two of them we purchased the Canon Powershot A470. ( the third daughter really wanted a doll) We got them for around $85 each on Amazon. They looked to have pretty good reviews for a first time camera. I hope that they will do the trick. I guess we'll see in a few days.

I really wasn't wanting to spend all that much on first time cameras. But we did the cheap camera last year and got one for around $50. I can't right off remember the brand, I think it was a GE and my daughter has been overly disappointed in it. It takes poor pictures and the batteries drained down really fast. I told my hubby if we are going to get cameras for them, we should look at spending a little more to get cameras that hopefully work better.

That was my thought upon returning the GE's. The polaroid & samsung were more expensive, though they've only had to replace the batteries over a few days and not a few hours. I am giving thought to purchasing the powershot for another child, so please let me know how well they work.
