I plan on heading to the PHX area within the next few months. For the first few days I will stay with friends/family but I'd like to hit the ground fast and find my own place asap.

I won't be employed right away but will look for work upon my arrival and may already have connections for employment. Would this be a problem even if I have sufficiant funds or would most places be inclined to rent to the currently employed? I've lived places before where this wasn't an issue and my friend in the area does not think it should be an issue.

Off the bat I'd prefer a studio or small one bedroom in the $400-600 range. Just something to hold me over while I settle for 6 months. I welcome any recommendations based upon places you live or have lived.

I read a few listings online from Sundial Real Estate and Tuscany at Chandler. Has anyone had dealings with them?

They will probably give greater weight to your credit history and references from past landlords in a case like yours. However, you can also rent temporary furnished apartments on a weekly basis if all you need is a studio or small 1 bedroom. Most of the supermarkets have free monthly magazines that list available apartments in the Phoenix/Tempe. If you look for listings under temporary apartments you may find a short term apartment you rent week-to-week giving you time to find a job and to do a good search for a long-term rental. However, given the depressed rental market it may be easier than ever to get a place.
