If we move to the Gilbert or Chandler area, our daughter will start her sophomore year of high school there. In doing some online research, we have noticed that the high schools in these cities have very large student bodies of 2,500+. There are no high schools here remotely that big. Does anyone here have kids in high school who can comment on or suggest a high school, probably in Gilbert, but we are open to Chandler too, that is supposed to be good or that they have had a good experience with? What about the local Christian schools? We aren't Catholic or Mormon, so we would be looking at Protestant private schools.

Thanks!

There are a good number of charter schools in Chandler, and I am sure Gilbert. Some excellent ones. They are like private schools funded as public schools by the state. The Great Hearts Academies are growing quickly. Check out Charter Schools Arizona or Gilbert, and you will find plenty of choices.

While the public schools may be huge in terms of enrollment (both Gilbert and Chandler's populations nearly tripled earlier in this decade before the housing crisis), the high schools in both are usually considered some of the best in the state if AIMS and SAT/ACT test results are any indication (Hamilton in Chandler and Gilbert HS readily come to mind).

My kids went to Highland High in Gilbert and it was fine. Stay away from Liberty or Life School as it's called. My daughter tried that for a year and it was not good. I know a few families who have sent their kids to a Christian school in Chandler and they were very happy. I can't think of the name of the school. It's pretty close to the south Tempe Chandler border but it will cost you.

How good is Chandler Prep or Temp Presp? Can they compete with other tops schools in other states?

Both Gilbert and Highland High have good reputations. Desert Ridge in Mesa is also a good high school. The class size there is around 20 kids per class. I'm not sure about Gilbert and Highland.

However, with the teacher cuts, classes could increase in size.
