And with no end in sight. Weather.com has Phoenix at 110 or higher until Aug. 1 and it's looking as if the heat will continue long past that. With more than 2 million 50 or older, how are the middle aged and elderly coping with such unrelenting heat where temps are still at 94F at 3AM? Do people keep the AC going non-stop 24/7? How do they get out to do errands in such brutal heat if they are at risk for stroke or a coronary?

I have an older brother in Sun City who is 84 and while he says he's weathering the temps I know he's not well and cannot get out to do things in such heat. How are other oldsters coping with the heat wave?

What are you talking about? You think someone can't do errands when the temps are between 90-105 as they are throughout most of the day during the heat period? Do you think the human body at age 50 is suddenly going to have a stroke because it's 110? Look, the climate is changing, this is a really brutal stretch but you're overreacting to a world that has climate control.

Are you saying that there are people who cannot tolerate the heat even when walking from the house to their car? They will have a heart attack walking from the parking lot to the store? If so, then not sure Phoenix is the place for them.

Sure, it's not the season to dig a trench outside. But to say that people "cannot get out to do things in such heat" isn't accurate. If you don't live in Phoenix, it may be hard to believe that people can live here because they see the high temps and just can't fathom it. People have survived living here for a long time, even before AC existed.

Of course people keep the AC going 24/7, but that doesn't mean it runs continuously 24/7 without turning off before it cycles back on. If it runs continuously then either your AC unit isn't operating correctly, your thermostat is set too low, or your house has leaky windows, etc. Does anyone with AC actually ever turn it off in the summer, like for a few hours. Nope.

I'd take the heat in Phoenix over a 95 degree day in NYC with 100% humidity where it feels like 150 degrees and hell on earth. I used to take the subway underground to my office and have to change my dress shirt every day during the Summer once in the office.

And this was 20+ years ago long before liberal wackos even thought of the term climate change.

Same way we always do. AC in the house to AC in the car to AC in the store/workplace to AC in the car to AC in the house. God Bless Willis Carrier.

Okay. Oldsters in Phoenix are NOT suffering from 115+ temps for weeks on end. I don't know. I've never lived there hence the inquiry. If my questions provoke such ire then let the thread die.

I have a friend in his 60's who lives in Tucson. His solution is to leave the area. He's currently on a three week camping trip further north.

You seem to be not very aware.

The temperatures here in Sun City West have been 116-119 for quite a few days now.

Age 50. You do realize that people in Sun City and Sun City West are mostly well above age 50.

AC does break down.

The bolded is certainly not true. Recently it's been over 100F by the time a lot of retail shops open. It's already 103, at about 9:15 am.

Unaware of what? If your AC breaks down, then you do have a problem, and you better get it fixed ASAP.

I'm much older than 50, not in perfect health, and while I won't be working outside very much and stay indoors a little more, I can at least walk to and from my AC house to my AC car. My wife who's a year younger has a job where she must walk around outside a fair amount and does fine. Really the outdoor temp doesn't affect daily life much unless you want to golf, go hiking, etc.
