Hi everyone..
We are a family with 3 small boys from WI looking to relocate to the Phoenix area. I am wondering what kinds of things kids do in the summer here (being that it is so HOT). Do people still do outdoor activites or what is it like for the summer months? I just don't want to have to hibernate inside for a few months while the kids are off school (we are use to hibernating during the winter months but the kids are at least in school). Thank you for your help..

Lots of swimming when I was growing up! Literally 5+ days a week.

And go see movies, etc.

They go outside and play. It's like kids playing in the snow, they just get used to it. Or they just don't care, it's adults that usually over focus on it.

Definitely most afternoons when it's hottest kids will stay in. By about 4:30 it's cooling off(sorta) , the sunlights not so direct and theres still a couple hours of light to play in the yard.

Swimming and water are a big part of it. Just soaking yourself with the hose is a big help.

Just like in WI in winter, make sure you dress them to handle the weather, long sleeves and a hat for sure.
And have them drinking water, you must drink fluids, but the cokes wil transform your kid into an elephant....

When I was a kid, I was outside and playing. Just maybe not ALL day. Definitely remember coming back to cool off for a bit and leaving again.

Other than that.. time in the pool.. Or going to one of the various water parks around town.. Going to see a movie.. Normal stuff.

Life goes on here, regardless of the heat.

Thank you so much... Some of the forums I've been reading on the summer heat makes it sound like the city shuts down and no one comes outside... Just want to make sure there is activities for the kids to do while they are on summer vacation (and we are not just sitting around in the house)...

Buy a house with a pool. It makes all the difference.

Plus, Flagstaff is only a 2 or 3 hour drive, nice and relativly cool...

Please, let your kids play, so they won't transform into the blubberballs I see at the local Wal*Mart.

We are way too active of people to sit still and not enjoy life.. Hence looking for a warmer climate to enjoy more of the outdoors.. Glad to hear you can still enjoy the summer months despite the heat...
