Small project landscaper recommendations - Chandler/Gilbert (home, landscaping)

I'm new to the website & forums, and it looks like a great site to get info (wish I'd known about this while buying our home!).

We just bought our home - supposedly landscaped. We simply can't see where the designer went with the backyard; the idea just seems to be filling up the yard with ground cover a month before selling the house. We weren't given any plan for the yard either.

We now want to redo some parts of the front yard, possibly also do some smaller projects in the backyard. Obviously since we just spent so much on the house, we can't spend another 10k on redoing the entire landscaping, so we want to do it bit by bit. While we are open to beginner-level DIY, we want some sense of direction from an experienced hand.

I'm wondering if any of you has recently worked with landscapers who have done small projects for you at reasonable prices? Maybe just to add rip rap, add to existing paving or add a couple of trees/plants. Also like a consultant who knows about plants and can give us some direction, not a designer who recommends adding a water feature.
