I've been looking at this apt on Craigs List:

Tour Today! SPACIOUS 2 Bed 1 Bath Unit. Gated, Pool, Much More! WOW! (http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/apa/1819388911.html - broken link)

The pics look nice and I like what I'm reading but the price seems really cheap. Good deal or shady area?

My only real concerns are gang related activity and autotheft concerns. I drive a VW and wouldn't want to stand out.

Thoughts on the area?

Not the worst area of town, but right up (down) there. "Shady" would be making it sound too nice. It's gang central. Stay away.

Several things about that ad. Take a look at the google map. There are no apts at Thomas and 69th Ave on that map. I see lots of single housing. Maybe the park is gone and they put in apts?

Go 1 mile S. to McDowell and see if the apts just S. of McDowell there don't look like the ones in the ad. Make sure not to get an apt next to the lovely freeway! Nothing like listening to cars all night long.

As a single male, if I were looking, I would check them out. Probably would decline to rent. Ponderosa is right about the neighborhood. Not suitable for a family at all.

There's something about the whole ad that feels shady. "Free On-site maintenance"? Hope so. "Air Conditioning with your own thermostat"? Interesting, do multiple apts share thermostats nowadays? They're trying to make what I consider normal amenities sound like they are A+ amenities. Must have an appointment to tour the place? Fill out the questionnaire. I already don't like the managment.

If you do decide to check it out drive by before calling. Still want to see it? Call the number instead of emailing them personal info they can sale to a spammer. Don't give them all that info. Am I paranoid? Maybe. They don't need your monthly income unless this is government housing and you need to qualify.

Hmmm..... pretty sure they are on 67th ave (not 69th), just north of Thomas. Like previous poster said, ad looks shady.

That section of Maryvale is not the best area of the city - I realize that $$$ has a lot to do with making decisions but, if it were me - I would NOT move there.

High crime area. You won't have to wait long to find a cop.
