I don't buy much meat but I've seen employees stocking at Aldi & I've seen fresh pork being stocked from Smithfield boxes & fresh chicken coming from Tyson boxes.

I know I've said in the past that their private label products are hit or miss, and if you're going to save serious money at any supermarket, you need to go with the private label products. (These make up the overwhelming bulk of the items offered at the deep-discount no-frills supermarkets. Aldi's private label products are for the most part very high quality; the only areas where I've found them wanting so far is in some of the crackers they offer. And they also offer a changing selection of specialty products, something not found at most no-frills grocers.)
When you get Lidl, they also do the weekly specials, with a different twist.

I went there ONCE -- granted -- decades ago when it was a Shop-n-Bag. I was shocked. Floor? Filthy. Produce? Brown, AND limited selection. Those two things alone were enough for me to say to myself, "OMG, People shop for their food here? THIS is their grocery store?" OMG. I'd never seen a grocery store so dirty. I left there stunned.

Of course that store has changed names over the years. Every time I drive by, I see nothing to make me think that whatever is there now, is a store I'd EVER want to go into again. Ev.er.
It's the worst because the market doesnt have anything

Do you have any update about Lidl and the Philly metro? Their entry here seems stalled.

Nothing official. They had a lot of problems with the roll out. They brought over a guy from the Irish division. I guess they thought that speaking English was good enough. He made some colossal errors, that were totally avoidable, like organic, grassfed Irish beef that priced out at $19.99 a lb which stood out the most.

He's back in Ireland & 2 Germans were sent over to sort out the mess. There've been a lot of changes & ALL construction was halted. 3 sites near Charlotte have resumed construction. Right now the 2 nearest stores to Philadelphia are Vineland in South Jersey & Middletown, Delaware. They have a site for a store in Mantua in Gloucester County. I haven't seen anything about construction there. My guess is that their plans are set back 6 - 9 months, maybe a year.

Thanks. They have a distribution center site in South Jersey, but l think that they're currently stocking Vineland from Cecil County.

A South Jersey distribution center should work for the whole Philadelphia market.
