Best string program of the ones you mentioned is West Chester. They have a dePasquale teaching there. Don't know if Great Valley has one, if they do, it's small. Unionville-Chadds Ford's program is also small. Both of the latter two districts are small, so keep in mind they have to draw all their kids (sports and music alike) from that small student body. It doesn't leave much.

Best string programs in the county - are in Downingtown and Tredyffrin-Easttown. Downingtown is also one of the more progressive districts, in addition to having the best instrumental groups - their marching band is HUGE. Lots of West Chester U grads teaching (and they are known for their music department).

That is not an accurate statement. They are large school districts, with good music programs.

Basically every school district in Montgomery county has a good music program, schools near the mainline, public and private are very good.

That's not true at all. Some barely have programs! Define "good".....

OP asked about three specific districts. Since I happen to teach in the county, I know.

That would depend on the area of the county. MontCo is very large, and some schools are better than others. Some do not have string programs at all.

Where are you looking?

My mother has taught in both WCASD and Great Valley and it was her imporession that students in WCASD were getting better educations. That's totally anecdotal though and off the top of my head I can't remember what she was basing that on.

I know for a while there was some sort of upheaval at WC Henderson's music department that resulted in them no longer having a marching band. But I don't know if that's resolved. Don't know if it even affected orchestra/strings. And I know that both WC East and Rustin weren't affected by that.

Smile Concordville was my hometown!

However, our school was 'rural' and not well-funded (Garnet Valley Schools) but that area has seen an amazing explosion in population and cultural diversity. I would also recommend Garnet Valley if you are already in the area. Rose Tree always had a well-funded arts/music/theatre culture, so many affluent pple there. I remember when Unionville was all farmland back in the 70's, but even that has exploded exponentially. They're all good!
