I had too small charges on my AMEX statement today that I know I didn't make. They were in Spanish and they were for "goods and services" for "foreign purchases." Amex took the charges off with no problem.
I googled the company and it turns out this company is from Brazil and they are charging hundreds of AMEX customers fraudulently. The amounts are small each time in the hopes that a lot of people don't check their statement carefully enough and won't notice the charges for some time. AMEX can only go back I think 60 days to take a charge off.
So beware and check your AMEX statements carefully.
I had something similar happen a couple months back.
$195 charge which I glossed over as I'd had a ton of unusual expenses that month.
Next month had two more $195 so I called it in.
Yep. Some screwy company with no contact info. They reversed the charges for me.
Amex is actually really good with this type of stuff... awhile back I forgot my card at a restaurant. The restaurant called the card company, which in turn called me that I forgot the card.
The next day I went and got it from the restaurant... but Amex called me and told me they actually closed that account and transferred everything into a new one and sent me a new card (basically as a precautionary note).
