If you messsage me your private email, I will send you everything I found.

Wibmer family members that I found from Wind-materei, Tyrol:
(I estimated your Joseph Wibmer was born before 1883. I thought A Louis Franz Wibmer was likely his brother and the other two-George John & Alfons were his cousins. If you have more information I can look further.)

A.Louis Franz Wibmer son of Joseph Wibmer (from passport application)
born 11Nov 1878
married 1901 Cecilia Ploner (in Austria)
immigration 1905 June 10 on "LaSavoie"
naturalized citizen
died 20 Jan 1956 Central City, South Dakota
Mill man, gold mill
Passport Feb 1923 to visit father & mother getting along in years..he age 44 yrs, 5'11", blue eyes, Grecian nose, mustached, dimpled chin, lt brown hair, semi oval face.
1910-1940 census South Dakota, Central City, Lawrence County.
Louis and wife Cecilia b1878-1926.
Children-
1Mary (Maria) born 1899 Austria & did not come to US until 1923 Aug 26 on Mauretania. Relative in Austria was Homer Zedlach. She became 2nd wife of Thomas Beimrohr after 1940 census. Thomas was son of Frank Beimrohr & Elizabeth Wibmer 1875-1922, buried Meade County, South Dakota, Sturgis.
2 Elizabeth 1906 South Dakota
3 Hermina 1908 SD called Minnie
4 Anna 1910 SD married 1935 Wesley G Rose, resided Chicago
5 Louis Jr. 1912 SD married 1936 in Deadwood, SD to Evelyn Jeanette Flasted. Louis died 1984 Lawrence County, South Dakota..from Evelyn's 2002 obituary-daughter Caroyn Boortz of Georgia and son Vincent Wibmer of Lead, South Dakota.

.....There were two Wibmer brothers with father Franz Wibmer from Wind-materei:
George Wibmer who was called John died 10 Dec 1920 In the Homestake Gold Mine when he accidentally stepped off a bank. He left a widow and 3 children which I have been unable to identify. The mining company paid the widow $12 per week until the full $3,000 amount according to the 1920 mine accidents report. They lived in Lead, South Dakota and his brother lived in Milwaukee, his parents and 5 brothers in Austria according to the obituary. He immigrated in 1905. I found one trip he made 1910 Oct 26 "Frederick de Grosse" when he was 26 and single& farm laborer and on his way to Lead, SD. Accompanied by Waldner, Alois 28 tailor & Brugger, Jeff 33 farm laborer. All of Tyrol to Lead South Dakota. George said his father was Franz Wibmer on ship manifest.
George Wibmer "John" 24 April 1884 -10 Dec 1920 buried Lead, SD.
...his older brother would be
Alfons Wibmer born 19 Oct 1881 Wind-Materei
Immigration 1908 April 1 from Antwerp on "Kroonland"
Father was Franz Wibmer in Austria, going to St Paul, Minnesota, 29 years of age
In 1922 passport application he was going to visit relatives, father Franz Wibmer. He then lived Milwaukee and was saloonkeeper. Had lived in Black Hills South Dakota before Milwaukee.
Marriage record 1911 May 2 to Mary Waldner & on WWI draft record
Had 2nd wife Dorothy on WW II draft
Son John George Wibmer born in South Dakota enlisted in army in Milwaukee, infantry private.

If you would like more on Alfons I can look. I thought he might only be cousin of Joseph, not brother.

Roberta,
There was a Wibmer family in Butte but I could find no ties to the Wimbers of Windrich Materei, Tyrol, Austria.
Louis & Evelyn Wimber lived in Anaconda for a few years & were in 1940 census but had no daughters named Maureen. I do not believe Maureen to be directly related to Jakob. That said it is possible Mrs Pennell has researched the Wimber family and has helpful information.

I'm sorry Wibmer is the name I intended to use but my phone had other ideas. I found the name indexed as Wibmer, Wibner, Wipner, & Wipmer in censuses, death records, and ship manifests.

historyfan, you have done some amazing research! I was hoping perhaps Mrs. Pennell had moved to Butte from some other place in Montana, and might have some information. I would think most of the Wibmers would know each other??? Maybe not.

Jakob:
historyfan and Roberta are on a trail. Whether it is warm or not, can only cost you three stamps and three envelopes with a letter of introduction to the three addresses found by Roberta for Mrs. Pennell.

Oh my goodness I would never have expected so much information at once!
Thank you all so much!
I gotta go through all the other Wibmers you found in Windischmatrei, something that complicates things a bit is that "Wibmer" is such a common last name in that part of Tyrol, there's probably tens of thousands with that name in western Austria...
