Went shopping last night.
It was very hard to find kids clothing without some kind of logo, picture etc on it even good casual clothing like button up shirts seemed to have some kind of picture or phrase on them. Many of the pictures and phrases were in my view unacceptable. Comments about bad or flirty behaviour, pictures of sculls or other rather gross looking things. And this was in the boys department. I could not buy a plain tee shirt. Not one. every one had some kind of words or picture.

I like Lands End and LL Bean for basic, non-screen printed, non-logo clothing. I have found some basics at Walmart as well, but not much and nothing that would last much longer than one child, so not as good for handing down as the other places.

Gymboree and TCP are also options for the younger set.

Yeah. Its pretty sad, isn't it. I think lisdol made some excellent suggestions. Also, Hanna Andersson has great stuff for both girls AND boys. You can find them online if not in your area. Good Luck.

You have to look hard, but basic t-shirts are out there.

What age?

For younger children, Old Navy and Gap usually have some basic t-shirts without graphics. Same goes for the Children's Place.

If this is for a teenage boy, I started buying the basic t-shirts in the adult stores.

Walmart ususally has some plain clothing items-solid or striped tees, and button ups. Also, many Sears stores now have a Lands End section where they have this sort of clothes, it's usually a separate area from the other kids' clothes.

I've had pretty good luck finding non-logo stuff at Gap, Old Navy, and Target. LLBean also has non-logo tees.

The logo stuff seems to be cheaper IMO but I find plain or striped shirts at Carters and Osh Kosh stores, or even Target.

For younger kids (up to kids size 14), I'm a big fan of The Children's Place and Lands End. I am particularly happy with the Children's Place website which seems to have a lot of things on there that I can't find in my local store. Lands End sizes run pretty true but if you need to return them, you can take them to Sears for free.

If your kids are teenagers, it makes it harder because it seems like everything is logo'd or has some stupid phrase on it. You just have to look. There are racks, for example, at Target and Old Navy with t-shirts that have stuff written on them. If you search towards the middle, you will find some shelving units that have plain, folded t-shirts there and they are usually cheap. I myself just bought a bunch of plain t-shirts (mostly for layering) in all different colors at Old Navy and they were $5. I saw the same stands in the teenage sections too. They're out there, you've just got to search. It's frustrating.

Another option is, if you have a store that does screenprinting and or embroidering you can check them out for plain shirts. My daughter works for a local screenprinters/embroidering store and if they do not have shirts in stock they can order in whatever you want. They carry all sorts of kids clothing from basic tees - hoodies. They also have sweatpants and jackets. Pretty much whatever you are looking for they carry or can order. They aren't that expensive either if you are getting it plain. It's the screenprinting or the embroidery that will cost you.
