Does anyone have any books or parenting techniques that they can recommend that have made a noticeable difference in your children? I have no children yet, but one on the way so I'd like to be as prepared as possible! Thanks!!
I liked What to Expect the First year. As my kids got older 1-2-3 Magic came in handy.
Most of all, I used advice from my Mom and Dad. You'll get advice from everyone around you. Know how to take the unwanted advice with a grain of salt, and store away the good stuff!!
When I had one child, the biggest shift for me was moving from the baby mentality to realization that I had a growing mind next to me and I was in charge of providing that learning. While I can't single out a book that kick-start mommy's brain back into action, craft-oriented books like "The Toddler's Busy Book", or the one that I found at a yard sale, "Craft from Recyclables", were good.
Having two children close in age, I highly recommend two books that saved me through life with two toddlers, and later with two pre-schoolers: "Siblings Without Rivalry", and "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk" by Adele Faber.
Well, I have read a lot of really great parenting books, and although I learned a lot, none of them really changed my mind about the way I discipline or parent. There is one book that really made an impact me and it was "Continuum Concept" by Jean Liedloff. It is more a philosophical psychological type of book based on her observations, but I loved the idea.
I also really learned a lot going to www.mothering.com
