Tell her that when baby is getting ready for college, you'll be getting ready for retirement... can you afford to do both at the same time?

Common sense has to prevail, not girly manipulation.

If she still won't accept it, get a vasectomy before she oops you and takes away your retirement.

Leave the age alone. All the "think what he'll do when they go to college" are as relevant as "think what you'll do when you are 48 and your kids go to college." A 48-year old father would probably hit the mid-life crisis and start looking up the young skirts? (How do you like this stereotype?)

"What if he dies when the kid is 16" = "what if the younger dad dies when the kid is 16"

"How a 60 year old would cope with a 10 year old' = "The same way grandparents raise their grandkids that their wayward children dropped"

If you judge the age, I bet you are younger than 50, and do not apply the same "people change over time" mentality.

50 years old. MY GOD how old is that???? All one can do at this age is fall off the skyscraper, as a favor to the humanity.

Let's see, what's 50+ means these days.

Madonna at 50 ("hard candy") with 11, 7 and an adopted toddler.
Elizabeth Edwards, 58, with 8 and 10 year old kids.
Larry King, 74, with 8 and 9 years old.
Michael Douglas, 63, with 8 and 5 year old.

My husband, 61, with 3 and 5 years old.
I'm 16.5 years younger. No plans to die or retire.

Treat the OP post as the "having / not having children" dilemma. If you want to judge the age, reach that age first.

In short 6 years, Brad Pitt will be 52 (the age of the OP husband), and tell me that he will not be a stud still. Try to tell him and Angie to stop producing at that age for the sake of their golden years. Jeez...

Easier said when your retirement has been fully paid for since you were in your mid-20s and you already have all the leisure time you want because you don't have to work 50 hours a week year in and year out and you can afford to hire a platoon of caretakers to look after your passel while you're out running errands or earning another 14 million dollar paycheck or whatever.

Retirement?? What planet do you live on I wonder? Do you have a benefit-defined pension plan like they had in the 60s? Or a sure fire way to sock away a coupla million by 65? Why would you need a coupla of million to start with? To last you for the next 30 years? So you do plan to live till well into the 90s? Well, then you can have a kid at 65 and bore him to death for the next 30 years, and that coupla million will tide you both over.

"Drover" in my language means "a cart of wood".

Imagine your husband is perfect in a spiritual sense. See him as such and picture yourself in the same light. Your hearts desire will be answered. there are powers that can move mountains, your husband is far easier. You will have children.

And if you do, it will most likely be with a man other than your present husband.

I don't see anything in my post about a couple of million. But if he won't have it, then he obviously won't be able to afford paying for college for the kid. Best not to have the kid.
