FIRST, REMINDING PEOPLE THAT THE OP IS OVER 3 YEARS OLD.
Now, I have to address this post....are you kidding me? Mental illness for wanting their nipples pierced? Extremely dangerous? Have you lost your mind? Getting a nipple pierced is like getting an ear pierced. No different, just in a little more sensitive area. And, for most people, it is a private thing for only you and your partners to see. But I do se where your head it; god forbid the piercing people were gay, too.

Even adults value their parent's opinions. It's clear that the daughter wanted to discuss it with her parents before moving forward and there's nothing wrong with that at any age. Perhaps you didn't have a father in your life, but this girl does.
OP, I think it's important for you to express your concerns but you need to do it with facts and not just opinions. Take some time to learn more about it and you might find out that you're overworrying about it. Either way, all you can do is share your opinion and hope she gives it some thought. You would not be helping anyone by taking a hard stance on the matter. Even if she lives in your house.
Yes, I agree, the OP should act like a father and tell his daughter she is an adult and needs to make her own decisions.
So if she becomes anorexic such as with Karen Carpenter, you just let people die? Or if she wants to commit suicide, well she's 18 so let her go?

Well that is possibly the dumbest thing I have ever read. Getting a piercing is comparable to suicide or a disease? Wow. No, when an adult is a complete stranger to me that I have no connection with whatsoever, but I see them looking like they will jump off a bridge, I talk to them. I try to help them. When someone I barely know is suffering from a terrible disease, I donate to their fundraisers. If its someone I know, I try to do more. Treating someone like an adult is exactly that. Getting a tattoo or a piercing is not indicative of any need for help in any way. That fact that you think its like a disease says all I need to hear. That is disgusting.

I think the daughter is just headed in a direction that the mother doesn't want or understand. I get it. I dont think nipple piercing is a sign of mental illness but people have different standards/expectations for their kids. i can recall my aunt freaking out when her son got an earring in the 80s. If you don't get why a mother wouldn't want her daughter piercing her nipple I don't know what to tell you.
