35 years ago male au pairs were common in paris. i am not sure about now.
its sort of open season on white males i regret to say. this movement has affected men working in many "pink collar jobs". the fact that molestations by female authority figures has occurred rampart in youth detention and to some extent in the public schools does not seem to alter the public opinion of males esp white males, being the source of all sexual predator behavior.

In this matter, there in no need to bring race into it. Men in general are deemed untrustworthy. A couple who won't consider a white guy won't give any other race an especial preference.

I absolutely would have the choice to put my child in a male taught kindergarten class or not, they are MY children and I choose what is best for them in my opinion.

The circumstance with the early 20's teacher is very different than a 21 year old who has zero experience and has not been formally educated to teach or care of children. Also, if I get the feeling this teacher is not trustworthy there is no way I would have put my children in that class.

I know teachers who are very young who are excellent teachers and I know teachers who are 40+ and they are terrible teachers.

I would not hire a 21 year old man to take care of my daughters. If I had sons, that might be different...it would depend on the person and his level of maturity and how responsible he was. But for girls, no.

About male kindergarten teachers, my BIL tried to be a kindergarten teacher and it didn't work out...he was fired his first week because one little boy tried to poke another in the eye, and my BIL picked him up to prevent it. It didn't matter that he was possibly saving the other little boy's eye, he wasn't allowed to touch any of the students and so he was fired. I don't think a female teacher would have been fired for it, but BIL was embarassed and ashamed that he was fired, and he never tried teaching again. I've noticed that male teachers are more common in grades 2 and up...I think parents are more comfortable with that because by that age, kids are less likely to need help in the bathroom, or to want to hug their teachers all the time.

I understand where he's coming from...to the OP, sure , if I needed one I would hire you..for my sons, but not if I had daughters...nothing personal...just the way it's gotta be for me to feel comfortable.

I don't get it. Couldn't a man molest your sons just as easily as your daughters? Or it ok if that happens?

Why take the risk?

that is my take
You know, I have a son, and probably would be slightly offended if someone regarded my son as a potential threat ~ BUT, in the end, I would not hire a male babysitter for my son either.

Aren't the majority of pedophiles men? That would be my concern.

No matter how small the threat - it would always be in the back of my mind.
