Forgot about Jenga. I think I played that atleast once. and catch phrase (I know it is an adult one but I explained the premise to my nephew and then explained to him what one of the words meant--floppy disks--as I bought the game in 1995. I also played with him in the past the game (not board but not computer either) where you try to avoid the marbles falling down the chute--forget the actual name of it)

oh and trouble too. I have just gotten a couple of ideas about new christmas present ideas of board games for future: one I had thought about b4 (mastermind) and one I hadn't boggle--never would have thought about that as a schoolager game but I guess if scrabble is for a kid level boggle can be too. If you have any suggestions for this aunt about fun board games if you are the parent of a 6-9 year old I would appreciate it.

Ours love board games and it is always a family treat. Our favorites:
-Risk
-Clue
-Monopoly
-Life

One caveat with Risk though--sometimes that one can lead to fights, especially if someone feels that everyone else is teaming up against them. My daughter got really mad when everyone was attacking her territories and we stopped the game after she was knocked out.

We really want to start picking up some of the really complicated strategy games when the kids get older--the ones that can take several days to finish. I've seen some wonderful new box sets in Barnes & Noble. Has anyone tried these games with the family? Seems like they would be a ton of fun.

Yes we love board games in my house! We have tons of them - Monopoly, Life, Sorry, etc. We have a "game" closet with all of the games we have accumulated over the years.

In my house the ADULTS still play board games. (So far I'm undefeated in Beatles Trivial Pursuit.)

Nice, Dew! I was refraining from posting that we had a game closet long before we had kids. it's super exciting that DS is getting old enough to play now, too!
