Is that what you said when car companies were made responsible for equipping the cars with seat belts? Lay the blame where it belongs---on the worthless neglectful drivers who crash into things?

I feel like I am writing this for the millionth time: Blaming irresponsible people does not solve the problem of having irresponsible people among us.

Which do you think will save children's lives? Correcting a danger the day before, or blaming somebody for it the day after?

I didn't make car companies responsible for putting seatbelts in. In fact until I had kids I never even wore it. And I only started wearing it so my kids wouldn't argue, why do we have to wear one of you aren't? Tickets for it are too expensive. If it wasn't a law I wouldn't wear one now either.

And yes, lay the blame on the worthless reckless drivers who crash into things - where the blame belongs. Wearing a seatbelt doesn't stop the wreck from happening, and wearing a seatbelt isn't always a good thing. I know someone who was told it would have been better to not have had it on in her case.

Nothing can stop us from having irresponsible people among us, so what is your point?

I think the piece of crap parent could just take their kid out of the car. Why should eveyone have to pay for this just because some people are stupid.

And normal people remember the kid being left after a few minutes not after 8 hours, just like in your stories. That's what I meant when I said people can't forget their kids.

I suppose good parents do blank out on occasion, but I must confess that in eleven years, I have never forgotten one of my children.

I really think this causes such strong reactions from people because they realize how close they may have come to experiencing the same horror themselves.
No Sorry this could NOT happen to me. When I was in the car, I was always checking on what my daughter was doing through the rear view mirror, she was in a car seat in the backseat.

I have NEVER come close to doing something like this. I take MORE care with my dogs when they were alive.

Your post kind of makes me think maybe you have been quilty of this.

I believe she should get prison time, but that is my own personal opinion. She went back out to the vehicle to get donuts???? What a loser! You don't see people leaving their cell phones, designer purses, digital cameras, or ipods in their cars do you? She was only looking out for herself. She was too LAZY to put her daughter first.

Yeah, I have to say the same thing. No way. No way do you FORGET that you have your child in the backseat but you remember that you have DONUTS? sorry. Certainly none of us are perfect parents, but honestly, forgetting your child is in the car with you?.

@ gentlearts; Even on my busiest days I would never "forget my child is in the car." It's called being a responsible adult! The mother may or may not go to jail for the rest of her life. That has yet to be decided, but the fact that her child is DEAD because of her is concrete and unchangeable. Quit giving repeat offenders the benefit of the doubt and give them the punishment they deserve!

I said it before and I'll say it again. Some people are too STUPID to have kids.

Surely different to leaving the kids in the car with no air con while you go into the casino.

I can't believe you are seriously asking this question. The kid could get kidnapped or someone could steal the car. Alot of things could happen.

After about 5 mintues or so...a car comes flying up, screeches to a halt, and mom gets out just bawling, and frantic. She had just flat forgotten her baby in the parking lot. She was in a state of distress that made it quite clear that she was not an unloving parent. the point being...it could happen to "normal" people.
Then there is something seriously wrong with her memory or maybe she was on something or drunk.
